Reporting of results

Analysis and reporting of results, including a conformation run. The analysis of results should be transparent. Simple approaches should be used where possible to build confidence and provide clarity. 

In addition to the detailed checking of procedures, as set out in the check-list, audit trails are particularly valuable. This is a vertical audit and refers to the examination, in chronological order, of all records relating to a particular sample, from the moment of receipt through the various analyses carried out, to the reporting of results and the ultimate disposal of the sample. These vertical audits are therefore also sometimes referred to as birth-to-death audits. In contrast, a horizontal audit covers some specific activity across a number of analyses - this may be, e.g. solid-phase extraction or HPLC. 

With the wet chemical methods and methods involving physical properties now behind us, we begin a thorough discussion of the methods, data handling, and calculation and reporting of results relating to instrumental analysis. 

There appears to be rather limited reporting of results from field trials of thermally modified wood. Welzbacher and Rapp (2004) have given preliminary data on an ongoing field trial of a number of heat-treatment processes with softwood and hardwoods up to 2.5 years duration. All workers in this area are of the opinion that heat-treated wood is suitable only for out-of-ground applications (Hazard Classes 1, 2 and 3).

Once received into the laboratory the laboratory samples or test samples will be recorded and then be subjected to analytical operations, beginning with the measuring out of a test portion and proceeding through various operations to the final measurement and reporting of results/findings.

Recommendation There is a need for review of the bioethical issues confronting the future of biomonitoring, including confidentiality, informed consent, reporting of results, and public-health or clinical followup.
