Reference Check

Check references thoroughly before extending a job offer. As mentioned previously, interviews are a useful tool, but they are not necessarily the best way to determine an applicant s background. Besides the application and interview, one must perform a thorough reference check. References given should be both personal and business. Personal references can be almost anyone, but business references should include co-workers, bosses, and other persons who know the applicant and have worked with him or her on a professional basis. 

This may be a surprise to some people, but experience has shown that some applicants provide references that can be less than complimentary. One would believe that any listed reference will give a positive review of the applicant. After all, if you were applying for a job, and your prospective employer asked you to supply names of persons who can vouch for your expertise, one would tend to believe that any references that the applicant listed would  

I am not sure if this question is on a list of approved questions to be asked, but it surprised me I had never had anyone ask me that type of question when checking references. According to the retired colonel, their human resource department typically checks all references, but the colonel always preferred checking the references for anyone who was being considered for hire in his department.

Print out each article that you decide to use. Be sure to print the enf/re article. A common mistake is to print the text but not the references. Check to be sure the printout includes full bibliographic information (i.e., the full and abbreviated journal name and the article s title, authors, volume, year, and inclusive page numbers). For a Web-based article, write down the full Web address and the month and year that you accessed the site. 

The chapter coordinators met over a three-year period to evaluate and revise various drafts of the document. Once the RO found the unedited final draft acceptable, it was sent to over 100 contact points throughout the world for review and comment. The unedited draft was also made available on the IPCS web site for external review and comment for a period of two months. These comments were peer-reviewed by the RO and chapter coordinators, and additions and revisions to the draft document were made if necessary. A file of all comments received and revisions made on the draft is available from the RO. When the RO was satisfied as to the scientific correctness and completeness of the document, it was forwarded to an IPCS editor for language editing, reference checking, and preparation of camera-ready copy. After approval by the Director, IPCS, the manuscript was submitted to the WHO Office of Publications for printing. It will also be available on the IPCS web site.

Failure to conduct backgroxmd and reference checks may mean that you make the mistake of hiring someone without the education or experience to do the job. Or it may mean that you hire someone with a history of problem performance. At the extreme, it may even mean that you create a legal... 

Evaluate negative information with caution Even if you receive negative information during a reference check, do nof immediately rule out the candidate. Attempt to understand every angle of the circumstances that caused the problem. Try to get confirming or refuting information from other somces. However, if it appears that the negative information is supported by relevant facts, and if you get similar responses from several references, you may choose not to consider the candidate further. 

Preemployment reference check and credentials check forms Hiring qualified employees in the current labor market requires a major investment of both time and resources. Many employers use a program of preemployment backgroxmd checks in order to minimize the risk of negligent hiring claims, maintain a safe and secure workplace, and protect company assets from the cost of a poor hire. 

Prior to performing a formal validation, the analytical chemist should have performed some prevalidation during method development. The expectation is that a well-developed HPLC method should subsequently be validated with no major surprises or failures. Prior to validation, specificity and some degree of robustness should be demonstrated. In addition, some form of system suitability criteria will have been established. System suitability evaluates the capability of an HPLC system to perform a specific procedure on a given day. It is a quality check to ensure that the system functions as expected and that the generated data will be reliable. Only if the system passes this test should the analyst proceed to perform the specific analysis. System suitability can be based on resolution of two specified components, relative standard deviation, tailing factor, limit of quantitation or detection, expected retention times, number of theoretical plates, or a reference check. 

One underlying principle to be followed in purchasing a NIR instrument that should be adhered to is simply this first determine your application, then purchase an appropriate instrument [1]. All too often an analyst is enamored by a particular piece of equipment and purchases it, and, then looks for an application. This is a proven formula for failure. As a rule of thumb, the particular application should be clearly defined and specific objectives identified. Its vital steps must be identified and the location of the test determined (in-line, at-line, or in the laboratory). At that time, instrument manufacturers should be contacted, feasibility studies conducted, references checked, and reliability of any instrument determined. Then and only then should an instrument be purchased. Most instruments available today will be suitable for a variety of applications, but choosing an inappropriate instrument for a particular application surely dooms the analyst to failure. Analysts will often erroneously assume that NIR is at fault in such situations, rather than consider that they have selected an improper instrument. 

When the Task Group has completed its review and the RO is satisfied as to the scientific correctness and completeness of the document, it then goes for language editing, reference checking, and preparation of camera-ready copy. After approval by the Coordinator, IPCS, the monograph is submitted for printing. 

Complicated entry systems (such as police record and reference checks, absence of drug and alcohol issues, use of electronic applications, and literacy requirements) create barriers to recruitment. 

In some companies, there is a general master procedme for each work process, which addresses the work to be done by function, and leaves to each of the involved functions the task to develop specific functional procedures to implement the master procedure. This cross-reference check allows someone new to the particular work process to understand how aU of the parts of the company come together to make the action taken place. Related procedures could also be fisted if knowledge of such procedures would enhance understanding of the work process. The design used should follow the design used by the company for its business process system. Likely related or implementing procedures are sometimes noted in the commentary in italics next to the particular step in the model procedure.

Do your homework — Conduct all necessary and required background investigations and reference checks as prescribed by the FMCSRs (Paris 383 and 391).
