Recorder keeper

A STANDARD IS NOT AN END PRODUCT but a vehicle to assist records keepers in achieving the principal mission of their organizations, namely, to preserve information and to make this information available to others. The object of this chapter is to emphasize the need for records organizations to direct some of the efforts of their research and conservation laboratories toward the development of standards for records materials, to develop those standards in cooperation with a recognized standards organization, and to devise an improved mechanism for making use of specifications. 

The data and concepts developed from research are useless to the records keeper unless they are translated into action. Examples of this action are a written procedure that can be used in the conservation laboratory and a specification that describes a product to be purchased for use in restoration. Some standards in the form of specifications for paper, laminating film, and photographic film are available. Standard procedures, developed in cooperation with a recognized U.S. standards organization for use in conservation laboratories, are not available. 

An area that might be especially fruitful is the application of statistical methods. Because of the technical, social, and economic aspects of the problems, sufficient resources never will be available to conserve everything that should be conserved. Therefore, records keepers must know at all times what is in their collections, what needs restoration, the cost of restoration, the cost of storage, alternate procedures and the costs thereof, and the organizational structures necessary to get the tasks accomplished.

One other aspect of this change-in-nomenclature problem affects the user of all indexes and records. This is the changing of the names used by authors in published papers by indexers and record keepers. It undoubtedly is the privilege of every author to name his compounds as he pleases, but it is not always to his advantage to do so. He is writing his paper to make available to others the information which he has experimentally obtained. Yet the names which he uses may be so different from the names the indexer must use that the author himself may have trouble finding his compounds in the index. 

While you are homeschooling your child, your roles will include being both an educator and record keeper. The portfolio that you and your child assemble will often be used to help prove your child s level of aptitude and performance. Parents may want to consider adding standardized test results to this portfolio. Check with your state—they may require that you do so. 

Although not as formal as data based on written maintenance records, this important source should not be overlooked. Quantities of failures quoted by long-serving site personnel are likely to be fairly accurate and might even, in some cases, be more valuable flian records-based data. The latter pass from maintainer to record keeper to analyst and may lose accuracy due to interpretation through the chain of analysis. Anecdotal data, on the other hand, can be challenged and interpreted first hand. 

There is another explanation altogether for the divergent geographies invoked in various sources, an explanation evident in the listing at Ebla. That Mardu, Dadanu, and Ibal of the steppe are mentioned in conjunction with each other indicates that there is an association between them in the minds of the record-keepers that may not be spatial but conceptual - namely that all three groups were associated with pastoralism. 

The other piece of mandatory equipment that has changed recently is the data acquisition computer. Previously, every inexpensive HPLC had to have a strip chart recorder. The price differential between a computer-generated annotated chromatogram and a strip chart has dropped to the point that it doesn t make sense not to have that capability in the lab. You may only integrate 1 run out of 10, but when you need it, the capability will be there. Try and avoid a computer system using a thermal or inkjet printer. The paper does not store well for a permanent record. Often, it will be necessary to photocopy the keeper chromatograms for further reference and archival storage.

D. Behavioral observations and data recording. The sixty-minute observation period began when the focal (unrestrained, solitary, free-roaming) bull entered the enclosure. The observer was positioned where a zoo visitor might stand. The bull elephants were observant of the keeper s activities but appeared to be uninterested in other observers. 

Lilburne later said that he obtained a copy of this record from the Keeper of the Tower, and gave it to Marten. Probably he either gave a copy to Overton or wrote some or all of this section on the Lords himself.
