Raw materials production

Reducing waste from feed impurities which undergo reaction. If feed impurities undergo reaction, this causes waste of feed material, products, or both. Avoiding such waste is most readily achieved by purifying the feed. Thus increased feed purification costs are traded off against reduced raw materials, product separation, and waste disposal costs (Fig. 10.2). [Pg.278]

The working capital includes the cost of inventories, such as raw materials, materials-in-process, products, etc as well as suppHes, accounts receivable less accounts payable, prepaid expenses, other cash needs such as payroll, and some start-up expenses, eg, materials and wages. Typical inventories can be taken as one month s supply of raw materials, products, and materials-in-process. The materials-in-process can be valued at one month s sales. Other operating cash can be estimated as the actual cash need for one month. [Pg.444]

Bioprocess plants are an essential part of food, fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Use of microorganisms to transform biological materials for production of fermented foods, cheese and chemicals has its antiquity. Bioprocesses have been developed for an enoimous range of commercial products, as listed in Table 1.1. Most of the products originate from relatively cheap raw materials. Production of industrial alcohols and organic solvents is mostly originated from cheap feed stocks. The more expensive and special bioprocesses are in the production of antibiotics, monoclonal antibodies and vaccines. Industrial enzymes and living cells such as baker s yeast and brewer s yeast are also commercial products obtained from bioprocess plants. [Pg.4]

Pipe racks (Fig. 6-4) are an elevated collection of pipes that transport utilities as well as raw material, product, and waste streams from one part of the plant to another. They may also be used to transfer information to and from control centers. Placing all the pipes together simplifies their construction and, later, the location of problems. Nothing should be located under pipe racks, since if leaks occur they may damage equipment. [Pg.148]

Bio-Research Products Inc., was founded in 1975, and specialized in the isolation, purification and characterization of enzymes and proteins. The company is well known for its production of wheat germ phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC). Currently, it is involved in finished goods and raw material production, through a biomedical contract. Bio-Research Products runs custom services on enzymes, proteins production, diagnostic assays, and other goods for industry, governments, or academia. Bio-Research Products, Inc. also markets a number of enzymes and associated products, and carries out custom synthesis projects. [Pg.251]

Resources re R are production units that produce finished or intermediate products as output an dt, /teT dee E require intermediate or raw material products as input. A resource is related to one location. [Pg.143]

Besides, products in a global multi-stage network can have a lead time caused by transportation or inventory ranges until they are used in the subsequent steps. This lead time has to be considered when calculating future inventory values of products in the value chain network a raw material product procured at a certain price can require several periods, until it is included in a final product sold in distant markets. Therefore, the inventory value change related to the procured raw material is effective certain periods after the raw material has been procured. [Pg.152]

Procurement steps are initial steps in the value chain and require to link raw materials with the subsequent products. Procurement steps have no production costs. Since one raw material product is considered as pi and p2 and one procurement location as h and h, related factors are all 100%. [Pg.153]

The raw material product value shown in the foreground of the chart is related to the procurement price offers. Subsequently, the following products are listed based on the raw material. The production step costs for each product are the values-added on the raw material value. In addition, an assumed timestamp is considered reflecting lead times of products through the value chain therefore, price changes of the raw material would impact the value of e.g. product E with some periods of delay. [Pg.222]

When conducting an investigation that may have involved uncontrolled chemical reactions, careful and extensive sampling needs to be performed, including residues, unused raw materials, products, relief effluents, and dispersed reaction products. It is likewise important to collect and retain material and process information such as lot numbers, instrumentation readouts, temperature and pressure profiles, and log sheets—before written records are lost or computer records are erased or overwritten. Testing may need to be done on the raw materials to check for any unusual thermal behavior, and on residues to identify their chemical composition. [Pg.123]

Our discussion of these processes will necessarily be qualitative and primarily descriptive. We will describe raw materials, products, process conditions, reactor configurations, catalysts, etc., for what are now the conventional processes for producing these products. We will expect the student to show basic familiarity with these processes by answering simple and qualitative questions about them on exams. This will necessarily require some memorization of facts, but these processes are sufficiently important to all of chemical technology that we believe all chemical engineers should be literate in their principles. [Pg.8]

At company level, the activities should progressively go beyond process improvement to take the entire product cycle into account, from raw material production to product recycling and/or disposal and involving all functions and departments of the company as well as suppliers and customers. This holistic approach allows the companies to design, produce and promote innovative, environmentally and economically sound products, improving their ability to successfully negotiate their position in the global markets. [Pg.11]

Most of the commercial Fluid plants have found it economical to continue operations on the silica-alumina catalyst which was used exclusively during the war to maximize raw material production for aviation gasoline and synthetic rubber. The lower cost of the natural clays, however, coupled with the different product distribution, has influenced a number of plants to switch to the use of this material. As the choice of catalyst is... [Pg.38]

Electrochemical reduction and oxidation processes offer several advantages over conventional methods in their application to organic synthesis. For example, selective transformations can be carried out on specific groups in a multifunctional, valuable compound under the usually mild reaction conditions. Independence of a reagent will result in drastically diminished environmental problems by spent reagents. Electrochemistry also allows the application of alternative feedstocks and better use of raw materials. Product isolation and continuous processing are simplified. [Pg.3]

Most processes involve the storage of raw materials, products, and wastes and the transfer of these items from one area of the plant to another. Proper materials handling and storage ensures that raw materials reach the production process without spills, leaks or other types of losses which could result in waste generation. Similarly, proper materials handling ensures that products and wastes which result from the production process are transferred to off-site locations without additional waste generation. [Pg.111]
