Radio frequency power level

A major disadvantage is the greater sophistication required in instrumentation. Our use of a liquid solution model to demonstrate the basic principles of ENDOR is perhaps misleading, as most ENDOR studies are done on solid samples at very low temperatures where long relaxation times allow ENDOR to be done at microwave and radio frequency powers that are easily obtained. ENDOR studies have been done on free radicals in solution,1"5 but the high radio frequency power levels needed require special instrumentation. [Pg.419]

Berry et al. [54] employed guidelines for skin exposure to THz radiation (15 GHz to 115 THz) drawn from American National Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers (ANSI Z136.1) and from the IEEE Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields (C95.1). They concluded that the maximum permissible average beam power was 3 mW, suggesting that typical THz imaging systems are safe. [Pg.334]

A third type of information available from NMR comes from the nuclear Overhauser enhancement or NOE. This is a direct through-space interaction of two nuclei. Irradiation of one nucleus with a weak radio frequency signal at its resonant frequency will equalize the populations in its two energy levels. This perturbation of population levels disturbs the populations of nearby nuclei so as to enhance the intensity of absorbance at the resonant frequency of the nearby nuclei. This effect depends only on the distance between the two nuclei, even if they are far apart in the bonding network, and varies in intensity as the inverse sixth power of the distance. Generally the NOE can only be detected between protons (XH nuclei) that are separated by 5 A or less in distance. These measured distances are used to determine accurate three-dimensional structures of proteins and nucleic acids. [Pg.6]

Except for N = 0, which has no spin-rotation interaction, Sauer, Wang and Hinds [83] measured the four radio frequency transitions indicated in figure 11.42 for N = 1 to 10 in the v = 0 level, and also obtained more limited data for v = 1. They also measured the lowest rotational transition at around 14.5 GHz, with hy-perfine splitting, as indicated in figure 11.42. An unusual feature observed by Sauer, Wang and Hinds [83] was a very strong dependence of the spin-rotation constant on the rotational quantum number N, which led them to express y by the power series expansion... [Pg.938]

The spin-lattice relaxation times involved in n.q.r. experiments are small compared to those found in n.m.r. and the resultant resonances are thus generally much weaker and broader. The radio frequency (r.f.) unit of an n. q. r. spectrometer must therefore of necessity be very sensitive and capable of producing high r.f. power levels. It is also a feature of these experiments that the frequency of the r. f. unit must be continuously changed but that its power output and stability remain constant over a reasonable scanning range. [Pg.95]

Operational environment checks should include those on power supplies, ambient temperature and humidity, vibration and dust levels, Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI), Radio Frequency Interference (RFl), and Electrostatic Discharges (ESD) as relevant to the needs of the computer system. This list of operational environment requirements is by no means exhaustive, and may be extended or even reduced depending on what is known about the system. EMI and RFI might be tested with the localized use of mobile or cell telephones, walkie-talkie communications receivers/transmitters, arc welding equipment, and electronic drills. The aim is to test the vulnerability of the computer system to interference in situations that must be considered as normal working conditions. [Pg.264]

The radiofrequency power is provided by a Heathkit model DX-60B r.f. generator, run at a frequency of 13.56 MHz, via a National Radio Company Inc. model NCL-2000 power amplifier and a Bendix Corporation model 263 power meter. This system can deliver 0-300 watts of radiofrequency power maintained at a constant level by a power level control unit. The output of the r.f. power unit is impedance matched to the cathode of the reactor via an LC matching network. [Pg.200]

The measuring of radio-frequency-induced transmissions between magnetic energy levels of atomic nuclei. It is a powerful method for elucidating chemical structures, such as by characterizing material by the number, nature, and environment of the hydrogen atoms present in a molecule. This technique is used to solve problems of crystallinity, polymer configuration, and chain structure. See chemistry, analytical electron spin resonance spectroscopy thermal analysis. [Pg.508]
