Commercially available heat flux sensors with thermopiles sandwiched at the interface were used to measure the local temperatures and heat fluxes that is. Omega Corporation, Model HFS-4 devices. The total thickness of the sensors was nominally less then 0.18 mm, and a schematic of the device is shown in Fig. 5.10. By measuring the temperature difference across the center film (AT) and assuming one-dimentional heat transfer, then the heat flux can be measured using the temperature difference and the thermal conductivity of the film. The local temperature is recorded using the thermocouple nearest the barrel. The senors were calibrated at ambient condition with zero heat flux. [Pg.148]

EXPERIMENTAL The sampling and analytical method employed in determining the various solvent vapor concentrations in air are described in detail by White etal (A)and NIOSH (2), Four Bendix National Environmental Instruments Model BDX 30 Personal Samplers were used daily (one in each laboratory) with large size charcoal tubes (SKC cat no. 226-09-100) which contained two sections of activated charcoal per tube (a 400 milligram section followed by a 200 mg backup section to indicate when "breakthrough" of the main section has occurred). The sampling pumps were operated at a rate of one liter per minute and were calibrated by means of an Environmental Compliance Corporation Model 302 Universal Pump Calibrator (a device that generates a thin film of soap which is carefully timed as it traverses a very... [Pg.215]

Analysis of Oxidative Degradation Products. The GC-MS analyses of the oxidative degradation products were conducted on a Finnigan Corporation Model 4201 GC-MS with an INCOS 2000 series data system. The resulting data were stored on magnetic disks and compound identification was assisted by a computer program for... [Pg.160]

The radiofrequency power is provided by a Heathkit model DX-60B r.f. generator, run at a frequency of 13.56 MHz, via a National Radio Company Inc. model NCL-2000 power amplifier and a Bendix Corporation model 263 power meter. This system can deliver 0-300 watts of radiofrequency power maintained at a constant level by a power level control unit. The output of the r.f. power unit is impedance matched to the cathode of the reactor via an LC matching network. [Pg.200]

Monomers were purchased from Polysciences, Inc. The liquid monomers (methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, styrene and a-methylstyrene) were purified by vacuum distillation under nitrogen, poured into thin-walled ampules, degassed at 10 - 10 torr and subsequently frozen in liquid nitrogen. The partially filled ampules were then inserted between a pair of parallel plate electrodes connected to an International Plasma Corporation Model 3001 Radiofrequency Generator, which operates at 13.56 MHz and delivers up to 150 watts of power. In most of these experiments discussed in this work, the power input was limited to 40 - 80 watts. The ampules were allowed to warm up until droplets of liquids appeared. A glow discharge was then in-Current address Department of Chemistry, Ibaraki, University, Mito 310 Japan... [Pg.253]

PMT signal counted 10 times for periods of 10 seconds each using Analog Technology Corporation Model 151, wide range current-to-frequency converter. Sampling times were 100 ms. PMT EMI Model 978AQ, operated at 700 V. [Pg.79]

We used two plasma ashing devices International Plasma Corporation, Model 1003B-248AN and LFE Corporation, Low Temperatures Asher, No. LTA-600.) Since the plasma combustion temperature does not exceed 50°C we avoid the possibility of mineral decomposition (especially of carbonates) encountered during high temperature combustion. [Pg.161]

The reaction products were analyzed by conventional gas chromatography using 20% Apiezon grease or 5% Silicone OV-17 packings (Kogyo Inc.), and acenaphthene was used as an internal standard. The reaction products were identified by comparing their retention times with those obtained for known samples. The simple Hiickel calculations were performed on a microcomputer (NEC Corporation model PC-9801VM2). [Pg.359]

TOC analysis was performed at Intermountain Laboratories (College Station, Tex.) using an OI Corporation Model 700 TOC analyzer. The analyzer was calibrated on a daily basis employing potassium bipthalate as a standard. The aliquots were acidified and gas purged to remove the inorganic carbon prior to injection into the analyzer. [Pg.4]

Several workers have reported modifying Consolidated Electrodynamics Corporation Model 21-110 mass spectrometers for use in chemical ionization service, and chemical ionization studies with a Bendix time-of-flight mass spectrometer is also reported. Wojcik and Putrell report achieving a mass resolution of about 56,000 with the CEC 21-1 lOB mass spectrometer. In addition, Putrell has also been successful in operating at high-emission-current, high-sensitivity conditions, which corroborates Pale s observations. Conversion kits to permit the operation of conventional mass spectrometers in the chemical ionization mode and complete chemical ionization mass spectrometers are commercially available. ... [Pg.270]

Representative samples were cut from both sets of the fractured lap-joint specimens. The samples were gold-coated and photomicrographs at various magnifications were obtained on an AMR scanning electron microscope (Advanced Metals Research Corporation Model 900). Each sample surface was scanned totally to insure that the photographs were representative. [Pg.370]
