Specific surface areas of the catalysts used were determined by nitrogen adsorption (77.4 K) employing BET method via Sorptomatic 1900 (Carlo-Erba). X-ray difiraction (XRD) patterns of powdered catalysts were carried out on a Siemens D500 (0 / 20) dififactometer with Cu K monochromatic radiation. For the temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) experiments the catalyst (0.3 g) was pre-treated at diflferent temperatures (100-700 °C) under helium flow (5-20 Nml min ) in a micro-catalytic tubular reactor for 3 hours. The treated sample was exposed to methanol vapor (0.01-0.10 kPa) for 2 hours at 260 °C. The system was cooled at room temperature under helium for 30 minutes and then heated at the rate of 4 °C min . Effluents were continuously analyzed using a quadruple mass spectrometer (type QMG420, Balzers AG). [Pg.173]

There are four main types of detectors used in GC thermal conductivity detector (TCD), also called a hot wire detector, flame ionization detector (FID), electron capture detector (ECD), and quadruple mass spectrometer (MS)... [Pg.276]

Shapiro and Watson (S6) and Frickel (F2) considered a device which in principle is similar to the quadruple mass spectrometer to be discussed later. In this device individual particles are suspended and balanced in an alternating field in such a way that they cannot escape. The frequency of... [Pg.77]

The combined ISS/SIMS is an extremely useful surface analytical technique that can provide several types of data from the same surface. Both ISS and SIMS employ ion beams, and thereby both methods can utilize the same ion source for the surface probe, as schematically shown in Fig. 2.16. Addition of a specially designed ion lens and quadruple mass spectrometer can make the whole system much more efficient. The value of information obtained from the combination of these two systems is... [Pg.30]

Eluted fractions are analyzed by electron-spray interface on a VG QUATTRO quadruple mass spectrometer, freeze-dried, and dissolved in distilled, pyrogen-free water immediately prior to use. [Pg.181]

The mass spectrometer consists of an inlet system, an ionization device, a mass analyzer, and an ion detector, and the system is kept at a vacuum of about 10 4 to 10 7 Torr. (There are various options available for all four basic components which illustrates the versatility of the technique.) The following describes an electron impact-quadruple mass spectrometer. [Pg.116]

The decay of fluorine atoms in the other reactions was estimated to be less than 1%.229,241 Pulse radiolysis combined with UV absorption was employed by Jodkowski et al.229 at pressures of 500 - 1000 mbar (M = SF6), while a fast-flow system with a quadruple mass spectrometer was applied at pressures in the range of 0.7 - 5.1 mbar (M = He). The influence of other homogeneous reactions on the reaction kinetics was also analyzed by computer simulation and found to be negligible. The rate constant ki = (1.3 + 0.3) x 10 10 cm3molecule"1s 1 at 298 K has been estimated at pressures of 500 - 1000 mbar of SF5.229 The theoretical analysis of the reaction kinetics was based on the approach developed by Troe et al.17 23 The fall-off curves for the reaction CH3... [Pg.210]

MS measurements were performed on a Sciex API I Plus single quadruple mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ionisation source. The mass spectrometer was operated in negative or positive-ion mode. Ion spray voltage/orifice voltages were selected at - 4 KV/- 70 V and + 5 KV/+ 60 V, respectively. [Pg.146]

LC-MS-MS analyses were carried out in a system consisting of a LC quaternary pump Finnigan SpectraSYSTEM P4000 and Thermo Finnigan TSQ 7000 Triple-Quad triple-quadruple mass spectrometer all from Thermo Electron Corporation (San Jose, USA) and binary LC pump Perkin Elmer (Fremont, USA) for post column addition. [Pg.384]

The molecular mass of the recombinant protein is measured on a Bio-Q triple quadruple mass spectrometer (Micromass, Manchester, UK). Samples are dissolved in 1 % (v/v) acetic acid/50% (v/v) acetonitrile and injected into the ion source at a flow rate of 10 ml/min using a Phoenix syringe pump. Spectra are collected and elaborated using the MASSLYNX software provided by the manufacturer. [Pg.71]

Experimental studies of interaction have been made on well-defined Pt (100) and (1010) surfaces [64, 65]. The experiments were performed in a standard UHV system equipped with facilities for LEED, AES work function measurement () with a Quadruple Mass Spectrometer and self-compensation vibration capacitor method. [Pg.213]

The inductively coupled plasma (ICP) atomic emission spectrometer (AES) is used for the high-sensitivity detection of metals in dissolved samples. Applications include metals analysis of polymers, additives, catalysts, and other components on polymers and plastic formulations as well as advanced composite materials. The operating principle is essentially the same as in ICP-MS, instrument with the main difference being the detector. While the ICP-MS detector is a quadruple mass spectrometer which detects elements by their mass, the ICP-AES uses a detector based on the specific energy frequency emitted by each element in the plasma. [Pg.44]

There are now several suppliers of equipment for carrying out this technique (see Appendix 1). One supplier is Finnigan MAT, which supplies single-stage quadruple mass spectrometers. [Pg.122]

A well-known researcher in the field of chemical reaction engineering, Mr. Axel Eklundh, studied liquid-phase decomposition reactions and obtained certain products in the gas phase. His reactor system is displayed in figure below. Some of the reaction products migrate into the gas phase, which was analyzed quantitatively by a quadruple mass spectrometer. [Pg.407]

A sample (1.5-0.25 mg) was pyrolysed at 590, 670, 740 or 920 °C, for 5 seconds at a column rate of 1 ml/min and a split ratio of 50 1 in a helium atmosphere. The pyrolysates were identified by using a quadruple mass spectrometer with an electron impact ion source at 70 eV attached to the GC system. [Pg.195]
