Purpose employee education

The purpose of the tuberculosis control plan is to prevent the transmission of tuberculosis (TB), which occurs when an individual inhales a droplet that contains Mycohacterium tuberculosis. M. tuberculosis is aerosolized when an infected individual sneezes, speaks, or coughs. Transmission of TB and exposure to TB can be greatly diminished with early identification and isolation of patients at risk, environmental controls, appropriate use of respiratory protection equipment, education of laboratory employees, and when necessary early initiation of therapy. [Pg.30]

Each employee in a low-temperature plant must be safetyconscious. He must know the procedures to be followed should he detect an unsafe condition emergency procedures must be a part of safety education. Unfortunately, in working closely with a particular system, an individual may overlook a hazardous situation that arises slowly. Accordingly, supervisors must observe operations closely. The National Safety Council suggests the use of a safety observation plan for this purpose. The plan is designed to permit observation of unsafe practices while work is in progress, discussion of these practices, and the enactment of corrective measures before an accident occurs. However, such a plan will work only if all personnel are convinced that it is needed. [Pg.107]

Although pipes are not considered containers for the purpose of this standard and need not be labeled, the plan must include education of employees about the hazards associated with any unlabeled pipes containing chemicals in their work area and how to deal with these hazards. [Pg.356]

Perhaps the most important aspect of this distinction for educational purposes is the degree to which the students own their learning process. One of the built-in drawbacks with hybridization and with externally-funded student projects and course offerings is the dependent relation that is formed between the funder and the funded, the employer and the employee. In this way the key distinction is whether students are encouraged to learn how to solve somebody else s problems (i.e. the problems facing the companies that support them) or whether they learn how to formulate problems that they themselves have come to consider important. [Pg.281]

University staff members who are responsible for security of chemical storage are often low-ranking employees who earn very low wages and have little education. In some cases, security personnel have obtained restricted chemicals and used them for illegal purposes. For example, theft of ethanol from chemical stores is common throughout the world. [Pg.12]

As a part of quality systems, standard procedures can be implemented for functional assessment of employees. Job description of employees and their training records are efficient documents for that purpose. Procedures for the training of a new professimial, the continuous education and the yearly examinadmi of qualification can all be part of the quality system of the preparation unit. Such qualification is... [Pg.548]

Workers and their representatives participate fully in development of the safety and health program and conduct of training and education. Workers participate in inspections and audits, program reviews conducted by management or third parties, and collection of samples for monitoring purposes, and have necessary training and education to participate in such activities. Employers encourage and authorize employees to stop activities that present potentially serious safety and health hazards. [Pg.469]

OSHA, Several organizations provide leadership for occupational health and safety initiatives in industry. In the United States, the key agency is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), founded in 1970 under the U.S. Department of Labor. The purpose of OSHA is to make sure that workplace conditions ensure the health and safety of employees. OSHA sets and enforces safety and health standards for industry and provides education and training. Although OSHA is a federal agency, it monitors state programs to be sure they meet or exceed federal standards. [Pg.1338]

Education of employees is just as important as training. The purpose of safety education is to create a positive safety attitude and change behavior. Effective training makes sure the employees understand why the safety rule, procedure, or requirement is important. Safety training is concerned with helping the employee develop the needed abilities, knowledge, and skills to use safety equipment or perform procedures safely. [Pg.446]

All this is purported not to affect the quality of education. Even if this were so, the drive to maximize research income at minimum cost does affect the education of engineering students. Research has really become just one type of machine within the university factory. Its primary purpose is to provide a product (research papers in this case) at minimum cost. The cost is kept low by paying graduate students and post-doctoral employees as little as possible and by experimenting as much as possible on computers, rather than in the field or in the physical laboratory. The students and post-docs are considered first as cost units and only secondly as young people who came to the university for higher education. The implications of this are described in greater detail below. [Pg.1137]

A major program element in an effective safety and security program is training and education. The purpose of training and edncation is to ensnre that employees are sufficiently informed abont the safety and secnrity hazards to which they may be exposed and thus, are able to participate actively in their own and their coworkers protection. All employees should be periodically trained in the employer s safety and secnrity program. [Pg.303]
