Protection of Staff

From that moment on all sorts of heavy-handed disciplinary measures were taken against me, all of which were illegal even within the UN, which doesn t offer much in the way of legal protection of staff. I was suspended from interpreting for most of the next year, which actually kept me out of the worst part of the building. [Pg.231]

Protection of Staff Who Report. Staff members who appropriately report a patient safety event to the Office of Patient Safety will not be subject to retaliation for reporting. Radiological protection of staff and the environment can be assured through a well-planned and adequately implemented radiological surveillance programme. Rezoning of radiological protection areas may justify relief from practices in effect for normal operation. Thanking your Regent, you rise from the table and pass on into the Chapel of the Rose-Croix. There, upon the altar steps, lie the simple robes of a wayfarer, stout sandals, and a strong hawthorn staff. Divest yourself of the indigo robe and the silver sandals and put on these clothes. Gazing upon the Rose-Cross, place yourself under the protection of the Eternal. Then, staff in hand, go through the Great Hall, around the central column entwined by the spiral stairways, and out the keep door into the courtyard. [Pg.148]

Safe, secure operating conditions are sometimes difficult to maintain, especially at locations where staff is not continually present. Safe operations of the site, and protection of workers and neighbors, may represent a significant but necessary expense to the project. [Pg.342]

In addition, one of us (DFW) wishes to express his gratitude to Dr. R. A. Purdy, Head, Division of Clinical Neurology, Dalhousie University, for his generous protection of time to provide the many hours necessary for the revision of this book. We also thank the editorial staff of Oxford University Press, Jeffrey House in particular, and Edith Barry, for working on the second and third edition, and for their never-ending patience. As with previous editions, we look forward to a continuing dialogue with our readers so that future editions can be further improved. [Pg.659]

The current situation is exemplified by a study of clinical staff exposures in cardiac angiography at the Montreal Heart Institute (Renaud, 1992). Extensive measurements of staff exposures were made using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) for 15,000 procedures in three cardiac catheterization laboratories over a 5 y period (1984 to 1988). The TLDs were located under the protective apron at the waist and at the collar outside and above the apron. Readings were made at three-month intervals, with a minimum reportable value of 0.2 mSv. Average values (in mSv per y) for various groups of staff, based on measurements with TLDs worn at the collar, are given in Table 3.3. [Pg.28]

Dr. Peter Bourne. Bourne prescribed Quaaludes for an associate and to protect her identity used a phony name for her. Bourne was forced to resign. No sooner had the dust settled than Hamilton Jordan, Carter s chief of staff, was charged with having snorted cocaine at a NORML party during the presidential campaign. This case dragged on and on. The Carter administration s early intention to decriminalize marijuana faded. [Pg.269]

The Navy should develop operational guidelines for the effective decontamination of its ships, bases, ports, airfields, and logistical chains—that is, make specific the joint doctrine expected as a product of the new Joint CBD Program requirements office in Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff/Director for Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment (OJCS/J8). Future Navy doctrine should discuss acceptable risks and evolve operational guidelines as to levels of decontamination and the levels of personnel protection that should be employed in order to minimize restoration time after contamination and maximize operational viability. [Pg.94]
