Protection concerns

In addition, restrictions on industrial air emissions under the Clean Air Act (CAA) as amended in 1977, the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990, and other state and local statutes and regulations have universal impact on the storage of toxic materials, with direct and significant effects on the design and operation of toxic material storage facilities. Whereas the primary factors which once determined how air emissions from storage tanks were handled were fire protection and loss prevention, in recent years environmental protection concerns nearly always determine the extent and nature of the air emission controls required to be installed. 

Had they been known about, both instances illustrated above would have been significant child protection concerns. The emotional vulnerability engendered as a result of such unstable patterns of parental contact is just as significant. The following child s description of his disappointment that neither parent consistently comes to see him in foster care is a depressingly flat statement of his low expectations that they will turn up, or even really understand the importance of the visit to him ... 

What one sees in these responses is a subtle, yet significant, shift away from addressing the immediate child protection issues, to focus on the mother s rationale for increased drug use. The attendant assumption is that given time (next day, next week) the practitioner can address the mother s stress and, in so doing, sort things out for the children. The focus on the mother, however, distracts attention away from the saliency of the child protection concerns. 

From the foregoing it will be seen that defense against chemical attack presents three classes of problems (1) individual, (2) collective, and (3) tactical protections. The first two of these involve protective measures of a generally passive nature, t.c., principally the provision and use of individual protective equipment, discussed in this chapter, and installations for group protection, treated in Chap. XX. The third problem—tactical protection—concerns modes of action and troop leading, with the new to avoiding gas casualties in the conduct of military operations.

How can cases (landscape units) be recognized that are severely degraded in all relevant respects to the degree that preservation and protection concerns are effectively absent. 

In this chapter, issues in personal thermal protection are discussed, focusing on the needs of workers in selected sectors energy (oil and gas), electrical, other industry sectors, and both structural and wildland firefighting. The important protection concerns for workers in each sector are discussed, followed by a discussion of potential trade-offs between thermal protection and thermal comfort. Clothing issues such as fit, comfort, and other ergonomic factors are briefly discussed. Recent developments in protective textile materials are followed by a diseussion of serviceability concerns, including durability and maintenance. A review of international performance standards is followed by a summary of the development of test methods to assess protection from heat, flame, hot liquids, and steam. Issues for future development of technical textiles for personal thermal protection are then discussed briefly. 

Fabeled means that equipment or materials to which has been attached a label, symbol, or other identifying mark of an organization acceptable to the cognizant DOE authority for fire protection concerned with product evaluation, that maintains periodic inspection of production of labeled equipment or materials and whose labeling the manufacturer indicates compliance with appropriate standards or performance in a specified manner,... 

Figure3.2 gives some details on the different steps of the process chain for the example of preventive pedestrian protection. Concerning data used, knowledge regarding the driver and pedestrian behavior (if not extractable from accident data) are taken from literature. The vehicle and preventive pedestrian protection related aspects are also based on literature as well as corporate knowledge. The intention is to construct evidence-based models using well-established statistical information to the greatest extent possible. The experiments and methods described in Chaps. 2 and 4 are intended to provide information necessary for developing the different models. In case specific parameters are unknown or for some reason cannot be investigated, sensitivity analyses are utilized to quantify the resulting uncertainties.

The generally used expression anodic protection concerns anticorrosion protection methods for some metals and alloys in aggressive chemical environments by anodic polarization with an external dc power source. Maintaining the metal surface in the passive state practically stops corrosion processes. However, it should be mentioned that the anodic passivity phenomenon can occur in the case of contact with other metals characterized by more noble potentials. Cathodic coatings causing anodic passivity are an example. The same role is played by platinum, palladium, or copper additives introduced into steel alloys. This method of protection is sometimes called galvanic anodic protection. 

Risk events when unwell pre-existing child protection concerns. 

There has been little research, to date, into the treatment of stateless people around the globe. For instance, a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of the 1954 convention by state parties remains outstanding, although biennial updates on statelessness are produced by UNHCR. Where studies have been conducted, a causal link has nonetheless been traced between the inadequate provision for the SSD and some serious protection concerns. For instance, mapping projects completed by UNHCR in 2011 conclude that the absence of dedicated SSD procedures has left many stateless people trapped in a hopeless cycle of detention and destitution. ...
