Mapping projects

There are three subroutines for making contour plots using various map projections and a subroutine for making x-y plots. The contour plotting routines are used with the Standard Pole Figure and Area Scan diffraction data files, while the x-y plot is used for data from x scans, scans, 28 scans, and layer line plots.

ABSTRACT Southwest China s geochemical mapping project to measure 76 elements was initiated in 2000. 2700 composite samples were analysed by ICP-MS, XRF and ICP-AES, along with other techniques where necessary. The resulting geochemical maps shows the distribution of majority of the elements in the periodic table. 

In 1973, J.S. Webb (Webb et ai. 1973, 1978) published the first geochemical atlas Provisional Geochemical Atlas of Northern Ireland . From 1973 to now, more than 40 regional and national geochemical mapping projects have been carried out (Reedman 1973 Bowie Plant 1978a,b Bolivar 1980 Geological Survey of Canada 1981 Stephenson etal. 1982 Weaver et al. 1983 Fauth et al. 1985 Bolviken 1986 Koljonen et al. 1989 Simpson 1993 Varna et al. 1997 Laszlo et al. 1997 Reimann et al. 1998 Salminen 2005 De Vos Tarvainen 2006).

This site has good databases on human and mouse SNP, Archaebacterium, fungal and bacterium sequences, and a good collection of software and links for mapping projects. 

Selection is expected to produce LD non-randomly across the genome, whereas all the other factors should act randomly over the genome. Some regions, such as HLA, show strong evidence of selection and significant LD which spans 3 cM or more. The LD and haplotype structure of the genome is currently being studied by the National Institutes of Health Haplotype Map project (Sec. 4.5).
