Project management, success

Successful installation, or roll-out, of your PSM systems requires sound planning and effective execution. No matter how diligent you have been, or how receptive and well-managed your company may be, no system as complex as PSM can work perfectly the first time. As every project manager knows, it s impossible to anticipate every outcome or contingency—especially when human behavior is involved. Pilot testing a new system provides the opportunity to identify weaknesses under controlled conditions this in turn enables you to fix problems before the system becomes fully operational. Once these problems are corrected, the pilot test produces a template for installation that can be replicated elsewhere. [Pg.147]

Standards for the project were set in the detailed project specifications created in the planning stage. The project manager must constantly refer to these specifications and make sure the project team is also referencing them. If the project deviates from the original specifications, there is no guarantee that the success predicted by the feasibility studies will actually happen - the product or project outcome might fail to meet performance standards. [Pg.826]

Project managers find many opportunities to provide feedback to those who have a hand in completing the project. Through feedback, individuals learn about the effect their behavior has on others and on the project s success. It serves to maintain good performance and correct poor performance. To be effective, however, feedback must be handled properly. This illustration shows the continuous loop that exists when there is good feedback ... [Pg.836]

Negotiating is an important process that takes up as much as 20 per cent of a planner s or project manager s time. Negotiating is one way to resolve differences, and it can contribute significantly to the success of your project. The ideas presented here will prepare you to negotiate effectively. [Pg.837]

Resolving differences What is best for one department or group won t necessarily be best for others. Out of these differences can come creative solutions when the situation is handled properly. Skill in resolving differences is an important quality of successful project managers. [Pg.838]

However, incorporating these changes in an existing unit is a major project, usually more complicated than building a new unit. The two critical components of a successful mechanical upgrade (or erection of a new unit) are effective project management and proper design standards. [Pg.206]

The next phases are detailed planning of restoration measures, planning of project assessment and project implementation. The final phase, utilization, includes maintenance measures, evaluation of project success, adaptive management and the communication of results. Throughout all phases of the project, the general political and societal framework conditions are taken into account. In short, project managers must deal with complex processes and consider the contextual analysis [7]. [Pg.250]

In addition to the implementation process, evaluation of the project s success is the core of a restoration project. However, many projects do not take this final check, which is a prerequisite for adaptive management, into consideration. Bernhardt et al. [23] found that only 10% of project records (out of 37,099 projects) indicated that any form of assessment or monitoring was carried out. In most European countries, the estimated proportion of success evaluation is in the same range or even lower. Project evaluation through systematic data collection serves to verify whether the project objectives that were defined during the planning phase have been achieved [24]. Therefore, project evaluation is the process of examining the... [Pg.256]

Good project management is the first step toward organizing the successful qualification of a technical system. A well-structured and -planned approach to qualification is the first step toward success. [Pg.482]

Validation plans are not required by any of the predicated regulations but are considered a key project management practice. Validation plans are an essential document for the overall management of projects, and are crucial for the success of the projects. [Pg.47]

Why is it so difficult to muster just the right amount of perseverance in a corporate environment We believe perseverance is foremost a decision-making problem. To meet performance criteria, project management needs discipline. Typically, at the start of a project the project leader develops a milestone plan as guidance for future project evaluations. When milestones are not met after the originally estimated time, management typically decides to withhold further funding because it has lost faith in the project s likelihood of success. [Pg.168]
