Programming general conclusion

As a general conclusion, EC and other initiatives or international organisms created the framework for educational and training programs, very close linked to the research ones, to promote international collaboration on subject fields of general interest for our communities. This offers the opportunity to institutions from different countries to participatory education and research projects, to agree and create cooperation networks, showing the common interest in the sustainable development of our society. 

In this book I use the term fetal programming —without reference to mechanism—to describe environmental impact of any kind on the fetus that produces alterations in health and disease apparent at any time in childhood or adulthood. This idea is essentially an extension into the prenatal period of more general conclusions about the role of early experience in later life. Included in this conception are postnatal temperament, behavior patterns, intelligence, psychopathology, and so on—the behavioral focus of this book. The point is that sometimes postnatal consequences of prenatal environmental impacts involve more than just alterations in the physiology of organ systems—such impacts can also have consequences for later behavior and cognitive performance. 

We have in this review presented a number of applications of the CASSCF/CASPT2 method in electronic spectroscopy. The general conclusion to be drawn from these and a large body of other applications is that if the method can be applied, it yields accurate results. The limitations of the approach is set by the possibility to select a small number of active orbitals, which describe the nondynamical correlation. As stated earlier, prediction is not the main goal of a QSAR analysis. Much more often general conclusions on the reduction of toxic properties, on selectivity, on optimum lipophilicity to pass the blood-brain barrier or, on the other hand, to avoid CNS side effects, are more important for the optimization of a lead structure. As it still is industrial praxis (and will remain for patent reasons) to synthesize and test large numbers of closely related analogs, QSAR is also an important tool to decide when to stop a synthetic program (compare e.g. eqs. 178, 179 chapter 7.4) [786, 1095]. 

A complete review of after-tax-efficient frontiers would be beyond the scope of this chapter. However, there are four general conclusions. Typical operating data from the University of North Carolina program are given in Table 5-5. The table shows the data for two runs operating at approximately the same conditions except for the presence of a DEA promoter in the solution of the second run. The results indicate that the addition of the promoter increased the efficiency of removal of all contaminants (CO, H,S, and COS), but the effects on CO, and COS removal were most pronounced. Conclusions from the test problems are not limited by any means to methanol synthesis. These results have more general meaning. Other reactions also will be used to explain certain features of the subjects. Yet the programs for the test problem make it possible to simulate experiments on a computer. In turn, computer simulation of experiments by the reader makes the understanding of the experimental concepts in this book more profound and at the same time easier to grasp.
