Pressure leaf filters are used to separate much the same lands of slurries as are filter presses and are used much more extensively than filter presses for filter-aid filtrations. They should be seriously considered whenever uniformity of production permits long-time operation under essentially constant filtration conditions, when thorough washing with a minimum of hquor is desired, or when vapors or fumes make closed construction desirable. Under such conditions, if the filter medium does not require frequent changing, they may show a considerable advantage in cycle and labor economy over a filter press, which has a lower initial cost, and advantages of economy and flexibility over continuous vacuum filters, which have a higher first cost. 

If you choose to accept a nonconforming item as is without rework, repair, etc., you are in effect granting a concession or waiving the requirement onI[/ for that particular item. If the requirements cannot be achieved at all, this is not a situation for a concession but a case for a change in requirement. If you know in advance of producing the product or service that it will not conform with the requirements, you can then request a deviation from the requirements. This is often referred to as a production permit. Concessions apply after the product has been produced, production permits apply before it has been produced and both are requests that should be made to the acceptance authority for the product. 

Specify how production permits (deviations) and concessions (waivers) should be requested, evaluated, and approved or rejected. 

When two solutions are mixed, a precipitate may form. For example, suppose solutions of calcium chloride, CaCl2, and sodium sulfate, Na2S04, are mixed. The mixture contains both calcium ions, Ca+1, and sulfate ions, S04-2, so solid calcium sulfate may form. The solubility product permits us to predict with confidence whether it will or not.

The Czech Republic has set a maximum limit for plastic materials for di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate of 50 mg/g as a component of plastic products permitted for contact with food (UNEP, 1999). 

On the other hand, we believe that greater attention should be focused to the fact that metal ions will form chelated complexes with azo compounds. Hence a vigorous post treatment with acids should be attempted if the stability of the product permits. Usually this treatment should be carried out before a final crystallization. 

Glucose-galactose syrups are about three times sweeter than lactose (70% as sweet as sucrose) and hence lactose-hydrolysed milk could be used in the production of ice-cream, yoghurt or other sweetened dairy products, permitting the use of less sucrose and reducing caloric content. The reaction products are C (main product) and D, the latter being the most volatile component and C being the least volatile (heavy) component in the reaction mixture. Separation of C as a bottom product permits increased conversion, while at the same time yields the product in concentrated form.

Other types of discontinuous flow reactors may be used for transient kinetic studies in which, for example, isotopically labelled reactants are widely used in kinetic studies. This kind of investigation has been particularly developed in the case of discontinuous flow reactors. A different instrument called TAP (for Temporal Analysis of Products) permits extremely sensitive detection of intermediates or products. The results obtained with these various instruments can provide information about reaction mechanisms. 

Assays for biological activity, where applicable, should be part of the pivotal stability studies. Appropriate physicochemical, biochemical and immunochemical methods for the analysis of the molecular entity and the quantitative detection of degradation products should also be part of the stability program whenever purity and molecular characteristics of the product permit use of these methodologies.
