Product degradation

A base, formed by the bacterial degradation of histidine, and present in ergot and in many animal tissues, where it is liberated in response to injury and to antigen-antibody reactions. If injected it causes a condition of shock with dilatation of many blood vessels, loss of plasma from the capillaries to the tissues and a rapid fall in blood pressure. It is normally prepared from protein degradation products. [Pg.204]

CgHjoO,. A compound of largely historical interest for its role in establishing the structure of many natural products. Methylation of vanillin gives veratraldehyde which may be oxidized to veratric acid. Veratric acid was identified as a degradation product of the alkaloid papaverine. [Pg.418]

It was further shown that such equations could be extended to a wide variety of amides and related compounds and even allowed the prediction of the degradation products of agrochemicals of the benzoylphenylurea type [13]... [Pg.183]

The evaluation of the impact of a chemical on the environment has to consider its degradation products also. [Pg.592]

Protective Coatings. Some flame retardants function by forming a protective Hquid or char barrier. These minimize transpiration of polymer degradation products to the flame front and/or act as an insulating layer to reduce the heat transfer from the flame to the polymer. Phosphoms compounds that decompose to give phosphoric acid and intumescent systems are examples of this category (see Flame retardants, phosphorus flame retardants). [Pg.465]

Synthetic fluids are safe, noncorrosive, essentially nontoxic, and thermally stable when operated under conditions recommended by the manufacturers. Generally, these fluids are more expensive than petroleum oils, but the synthetics can usually be reprocessed to remove degradation products. There are several classes of chemicals offered permitting a wide temperature range of appHcation. Any heat-transfer fluid in use should be examined periodically to monitor degradation or contamination. [Pg.504]

Ucon HTF-500. Union Carbide Corp. manufactures Ucon HTE-500, a polyalkylene glycol suitable for Hquid-phase heat transfer. The fluid exhibits good thermal stabHity in the recommended temperature range and is inhibited against oxidation. The products of decomposition are soluble and viscosity increases as decomposition proceeds. The vapor pressure of the fluid is negligible and it is not feasible to recover the used fluid by distiHation. Also, because the degradation products are soluble in the fluid, it is not possible to remove them by filtration any spent fluid usuaHy must be burned as fuel or discarded. The fluid is soluble in water. [Pg.504]

Deliming and Bating. The limed hides have a pH around 12. Because chrome tanning is done at pH 2—4, the lime must be removed for pH adjustment. In addition, the undesirable materials in the hide, ie, both natural and the degradation products from the unhairing, must be removed (7,9). [Pg.83]

Terephthahc acid is pure white, and molten dimethyl terephthalate is colorless. Impurities or degradation products can be yellow or brown, so the darkness of either a solution of terephthahc acid in dimethylform amide or molten dimethyl terephthalate can be compared to APHA color standards. [Pg.491]

The ECPI approach has been adopted by the European Commission in their "Technical Guidance Document on the Risk Assessment of Notified New Substances" as the model for assessment of environmental exposure from additives in plastics. It is important to note, however, that due to the effect of ultraviolet degradation and microbial attack, a significant proportion of the emissions from flexible PVC consists of plasticizer degradation products. In these instances, therefore, the level of plasticizers appearing in the environment will be significantly less than indicated by the plasticizer loss data. [Pg.131]
