Printing ink adhesion

Natural resins are generally described as solid or semisolid amorphous, fusible, organic substances that are formed in plant secretions. They are usually transparent or translucent yeUow-to-brown colored, and are soluble in organic solvents but not in water. The principal uses for natural resins are in varnishes, printing inks, adhesives, paper size, and polymer compositions. The term natural resins includes tree and plant exudates, fossil resins, mined resins, and shellac. They often have been altered from their original state during isolation and processing. For some appHcations, the resins have been chemically modified to increase their industrial utiUty. [Pg.138]

Trapped radicals on samples with different storage conditions and reaction conditions are usually determined by ESR. Modification of PVC by radiation-grafting technique is an attractive method to improve the mechanical strength, printing ink adhesion, and adhesive receptance. Wang... [Pg.870]

EB radiation-cured PVC film surface induces a big improvement in tensile strength and excellent printing ink adhesion and adhesive receptance [302]. PVC foams containing plasticizers, thermally activated blowing agents, cross-linkers, and heat stabilizers have been manufactured by EB radiation technology [303]. [Pg.877]

Example 5.5 Ethyl acetate is widely used in formulating printing inks, adhesives, lacquers and used as a solvent in food processing. It can be manufactured from the reaction between ethanol and acetic acid in the liquid phase according to the reaction ... [Pg.88]

Cationic photoinitiators are used in coatings, printing inks, adhesives, sealants, and photoresist applications. Most of the applications involve vinyl ether polymerizations or ringopening polymerizations of epoxy monomers (Sec. 7-2b). [Pg.380]

In the CoE guideline it is stated that some additional requirements are needed to ensure the safety of food contact materials and articles made of recycled fibre, due to the presence of printing inks, adhesives and other substances in the starting material. Aspects that should be considered include the source of recovered paper and board, the processing technologies applied to remove contaminants and the intended use of the product. [Pg.335]

Ethyl acetate is used primarily as (1) a coatings solvent for paints, lacquers, and varnishes (2) an extraction solvent for various processes, including decaffeination of coffee and tea (3) a process solvent in the pharmaceutical industry and (4) a carrier solvent for printing inks, adhesives, and nail polish. It is also used in the manufacture of artificial leather and perfumes, and in certain household products including airplane glue, and paint and nail polish removers. [Pg.1088]

Stoddard solvent is a multipurpose petroleum solvent (McDermott 1975). Industrial uses include paint vehicles thinning agent for paints, coatings, and waxes printing inks adhesives and as a solvent in liquid photocopier toners (Air Force 1989b McDermott 1975). Stoddard solvent is commonly used at air fields as a degreaser for precision engine parts in machine shops and in automotive repair applications. [Pg.91]

Metadioxane [505-22-6] (2,2-dimethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-l,3-dioxolane) is a high-boiling solvent with an excellent solvency for resins and polymers. It is used in printing inks, adhesives, and in the textile sector. [Pg.368]

Dielectric heating is used to dry printing inks, adhesives, and coating materials on paper, as well as to dry the paper itself. This has been combined with hot air, infrared, and other heating media to achieve optimum results. Some examples of commercial installations include the following [9] ... [Pg.297]
