Emergency treatment depends on the immediate toxic effects of BZP and TFMPP. High blood pressure, abnormal heart rate or rhythm, seizures or convulsions, fever, and abnormal movements all have specific treatments and may require hospitalization for intravenous medications and general supportive care. Coma or decreased level of consciousness, respiratory depression, difficulty breathing, and severe allergic reaction may require treatment in an intensive care unit and assisted respiration. If a user experiences any untoward effects, or if someone inadvertently takes a much larger dose of medicinal piperazines than prescribed, it is prudent to contact a doctor, emergency medical services, or poison control. [Pg.80]

Despite the advances in technology and instrumentation, problems still arise when practicing high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), which cause headaches to chromatographers. During several stages of analysis, such as method development or routine operation, a variety of separation artifacts may be noticed. Pressure abnormalities, sample recovery, poor reproducibility, loss of resolution, instability, leaks, etc. are common problems. [Pg.1654]

Children who had been exposed to excessive amounts of mercurous chloride tablets for worms or mercurous chloride-containing powders for teething discomfort had increased heart rates and elevated blood pressure. Abnormal heart rhythms were also seen in children who had eaten grains contaminated with very high levels of methylmercury. [Pg.36]

At the moment I am more interested in the principle of this resetting phenomenon than the details of its mechanisms. It illustrates beautifully the great importance of looking at diseases such as arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis as diseases of regulation/ The term arterial hypertension" is not a good one to describe the cardiovascular disease in which not only is the pressure abnormally elevated but there is accompanying vascular disease. It is obvious that it is the vascular disease which kills the patient. [Pg.67]

Cardiovascular Effects. No atypical heart sounds or blood pressure abnormalities were observed in 24 employees occupationally exposed to concentrations as high as 130 mg zinc/m of metallic zinc dust, zinc oxide dust, zinc sulfide dust, or lithophone dust (a combination of barium sulphate and -5-30% zinc sulphide) for 2-35.5 years (Batchelor et al. 1926). However, this study is limited because only selected employees were examined, and they were not compared to controls. [Pg.28]

Nine minutes after take-off, the crew heard a strange noise coming from the lower-middle part of the aircraft. This was immediately followed by a hydraulic low level warning, a hydraulic reservoir air low pressure warning, a complete loss of hydraulic system pressure, abnormal flap position indications, and a complete loss of air brake pressure. [Pg.175]

Other symptoms may Include low blood pressure, abnormal breathing, reduced body temperature, reduced body pH, convulsions, collapse and death. [Pg.126]

In the other types of abnormalities, the event classification follows those of LWRs because the components such as the valves and the control rod drives are expected to be similar to those of PWRs or BWRs. In the category of the reactivity abnormality, the incidents related to the control rods are taken from those of PWRs. The loss of feedwater heating is taken like BWRs. Most of the incidents of the pressure abnormality are taken from BWRs because the Super LWR also adopts the direct steam cycle. The reactor depressurization is taken from PWRs. The abnormalities categorized into the inadvertent start or malfunction of core cooling system are taken from those of PWRs or BWRs. The inadvertent startup of AFS of the Super LWR corresponds to the inadvertent startup of ECCS of PWRs. The core coolant flow control system failure is the same as the feedwater control system failure for the Super LWR while the two incidents are different in BWRs due to the recirculation system. All the accidents categorized into the loss... [Pg.360]

For the safety analysis, the abnormal transients and accidents are taken from each category as the reactivity abnormality, pressure abnormality, reactor coolant flow abnormality, and inadvertent start or malfunction of core cooling system in Table 6.4 except the CR assembly misalignment and drop transient, and the depressurization of core cooling system transient. They are shown in Table 6.5. [Pg.361]
