Adiabatic with Cold-Shot Cooling. Some exothermic reactions are conducted in vessels with multiple beds of catalyst, which operate adiabatically (temperature increases through the bed). At the exit of each bed, a cold stream is mixed with the hot stream leaving the bed to bring the temperature back down to the desire inlet temperature for the downstream bed. This cold stream is typically some of the feedstream that has been bypassed around the reactor feed preheating system. [Pg.23]

Openloop Response The openloop response of the seven-bed adiabatic reactor system with cold-shot cooling to a 20% increase in recycle flowrate FR is shown in Figure 6.17. The inlet temperature of the first reactor decreases because of the larger flow through the preheat system. However, the reactor inlet temperatures of the other reactors increase because the cold-shot flows are fixed. Then the first reactor inlet temperature starts to increase at 5 min because of the increase in the exit temperature of the seventh reactor. The pressure initially increases gradually because of the lower temperature in the first reactor. At about 12 min, the pressure drops rapidly because of the large increase in temperature in the first reactor. [Pg.302]

The testing used similar procedures to those described for the laboratory test program. The fuels were blended in tank trucks at the ECLP pilot plant at Baytown, Texas and driven to Charleston, South Carolina. The fuels were loaded hot and remained at an elevated temperature in insulated tank trucks. Fuel temperature for the combustion of the EDS fuels was approximately 43°C. The preheating system was bypassed with the EDS fuels to prevent sediment formation due to incompatibility in the fuel... [Pg.185]

A number of points have become apparent as a result of our efforts to simulate the fluidized-bed reactor-preheater system studied by Kizer. Two of the most important are it is imperative to have good kinetic data for the reaction(s) that occur. It has been demonstrated that the interpretation of the results is profoundly affected by relatively small changes in the kinetics. The second important point is the recognition that there are regions of operation where both the reaction kinetics and the bed hydrodynamics influence the overall performance of the reactor. [Pg.69]

The graded and cleaned particles of waste plastic are then introduced into a melt-ing/preheating system with an extruder feeder. The hard metal, clay and sand, glass, etc. are separated here by sedimentation, and then the waste plastic is charged in the dechlorination section. The solid metal, glass, etc. is removed from the melting/preheating section periodically. [Pg.725]

Boilers are higher NO , producers than fired heaters because the firebox temperatures are higher and they typically have air preheat systems. Firebox temperatures typically run in the 2100" F range, at full loads. [Pg.1939]

Boilers frequently have air preheat systems. The induced draft (ID) fans used for air preheat can be used to recirculate the flue gas. [Pg.1939]

If the crude oil contains a substantial amount of water and volatile hydrocarbons, it may be best to reduce preheat system pressure by removing water and volatiles upstream of the warmest preheat exchangers. This separation may be done in a primary distilling column or even in a preflash vessel. Fig. 2 represents the resulting two-column scheme. [Pg.2053]

Usually, steam is added to the preheat system, either as velocity steam or after the preheater as dilution steam to get deeper volatilization. Each product is steam stripped as in crude oil distillation. In the case of naphthenic crude oils, the bottom product may be directed to asphalt specialties rather than being treated to make lubricating oil base stock. [Pg.2062]

Environmental concern with reference to PVC and the fact that burning (possibly as a distinction from controlled incineration) may generate obnoxious acid fumes has created pressure on the pharmaceutical industry to move away from PVC. The alternative materials which have been considered include PET (polyester) and PP (polypropylene). Both require higher softening temperatures than PVC and good heat control, which can be more readily achieved with modem equipment with an effective preheat system. However, this only applies to certain selected and special material grades. Although these materials can be coated with PVdC to improve the moisture barrier, there are pressures to ban PVdC as it also contains a chloride component. Suffice it to say that the replacement of PVdC and its associated barrier/heat seal features may not be easy to achieve. Current opinion is that PVC will not be replaced. [Pg.370]

Feed preheating system (Figure 23.5b). This block requires one controlled variable (see Table 23.3), which is the temperature 7). The only available manipulated variable is the steam flow rate Ws, thus yielding only one loop configuration (Figure 23.5b). [Pg.247]

Another very important quality characteristic is the combustion efficiency (fuel efficiency) of radiant tubes. The efficiency strongly depends on the flue gas outlet temperature of radiant tube systems. In order to achieve maximum efficiency, air preheating systems use the enthalpy of the flue gas for preheating the combustion air simultaneously reducing the flue gas outlet temperature of such systems. High efficiencies with less flue gas losses result in lower fuel consumptions and lead to a reduction of the CO2 emission per ton of product. [Pg.492]

In order to increase the efficiency of the suspension preheater system, hot air is taken off from the cooler and sent directly to a specially designed combustion vessel, called the calciner. [Pg.623]

One tray converter in four stages fabricated in AlSl 304 H, (diameter 9,000 mm /17,000 mm high) will be built. The packing material INTALOX is placed on the trays to act as a support for the catalyser. Six gas-gas heat exchangers and one economiser to cool the gases before entering the final tower preheating system will be installed. [Pg.558]

The feed is mainly heated by the reaction effluent in feed exchangers before the charge heater. The hot end approach temperature in feed exchangers is a good indication of heat recovery performance by the feed preheating system. [Pg.42]
