Power presses regulations

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) revokes the Power Press Regulations but contains specific requirements for power presses in part IV of the Regulations. PUWER 98 is supported by the HSC Code of Practice and Guidance Safe use of power presses. ... [Pg.780]

The scope of PUWER 98 has been extended beyond that of the Power Press Regulations 1965 which applied only to power presses in factories. The PUWER 98 requirements apply to all power presses used at work. This includes, for example, power presses used in research and educational establishments. The exemptions for certain classes of power presses issued under the 1965 Regulations have been carried forward to PUWER 98 and are listed in Schedule 2 to the regulations. [Pg.780]

Regulations 31—35 deal specifically with power presses and have no significance for the construction Industry. In brief, compliance with the former Power Presses Regulations will achieve compliance with PUWER 98, although there are some differences in terminolt y and scope. [Pg.250]

Repairs, renewals or alterations to the power press and safety device(s) to remedy defects which are or may become a cause of danger to employed persons (Regulation 6(1)) (see note 2)... [Pg.155]

The Regulations require risks to people s health and safety from equipment they use at work to be prevented or controlled. Although power presses are included as woric equipment, part IV of PUWER contains specific requirements for power presses and is dealt with in Chapter 16. In addition to the requirements of PUWER, lifting equipment is also subject to the requirements of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. [Pg.8]

The primary objective of the Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 PUWER is to ensure that no work equipment, including power presses, gives rise to risks to health and safety regardless of the work equipments, age, condition and origin. [Pg.280]

PUWER Part IV, however, contains specific requirements for power presses, although employers must still comply with the whole of the Regulations (see Chapter 1). [Pg.280]

These regulations require that power presses embodying a flywheel and clutch mechanism must have the tools set and safety devices checked by a properly trained person. [Pg.70]

Plant that is subject to periodic statutory inspections includes lifting plant for both goods and people and associated ancillary components, boilers, pressure vessels, power presses, extract ventilation plant and some electrical installations in special situations. A list of the principal Regulations containing plant inspection requirements is given in Table 29.1. [Pg.623]

Other more specific regulations deal with noise, smoke and fume emission, guards on power presses, using abrasive wheels, lighting gas furnaces, storing gaseous and liquid fuels and a whole range of similar and related topics. [Pg.153]

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (except Part IV - Power Presses)... [Pg.366]

Regulations 31-35 relate to power presses and are not included here as they are excluded from the NEBOSH Certificate syllabus. Details can be found in the Power Press ACoP. [Pg.461]

These Regulations have been extended to cover work equipment such as power presses and woodworking machinery that present particular hazards. Advice on compliance with the supplementary requirements... [Pg.708]

The Provision and Use ofWork Equipment Regulations 1998, reg. 32 Power press 6-12 depending on guard type... [Pg.768]

The Regulations defined a power press as being a press or press brake which in either case is used wholly or partly for the working of cold metal by means of tools or for the purpose of die proving is power driven and embodies a flywheel and clutch. Hydraulic and pneumatic presses were beyond the scope of these Regulations. [Pg.780]

Although hydraulic press brakes are not included in the Regulations, in their publication on press brakes the HSE recommend that the presses and their associated guarding systems should be treated the same as power presses and subjected to a thorough examination every 6 months in addition to the checks carried out on each shift. [Pg.781]

Regulations for power presses and woodworking machinery have been incorporated into PUWER 98 (although both topics have their own separate Approved Codes of Practice explaining in detail how the Regulations and their principles are to be applied)... [Pg.246]

OSHA s Subpart O regulations apply to the safeguarding of many types of machines, such as woodworking machinery, abrasive wheels, mills and calendars, power presses, forging machines, and mechanical power transmission apparatus. Machines not hsted must comply with the current industry standards for that piece of equipment. [Pg.498]

PUWER Part IV applies only to mechanicaUy driven presses which are power driven, have a flywheel and clutch and which are wholly or partly used to work metal. The Regulations do not apply to presses which do not have a clutch mechanism (e.g. pneumatic and hydraulic presses). [Pg.280]
