Safe use of woodworking machinery. Approved Code of Practice and guidance. No L 114... [Pg.181]

In the UK, as well as the on-going development of the COSHH and CHIP Regulations, new regulations have been introduced for lifting operations, press brakes and woodworking machinery. In addition, a considerable number of new booklets of advice and guidance have been published. [Pg.286]

Suffice it to say, there would not be an OSH A regulation on woodworking machinery if an extreme hazard did not exist for these fast, sharp, and powerful pieces of machinery. For this reason, specific precautions must be undertaken to prevent injuries. [Pg.463]

Woodworking machinery must be provided with the safeguards previously discussed in order to protect those using them from injuries such as due to laceration, cuts, and amputation. The use of protective equipment should be employed to further protect workers with this type of machinery. [Pg.465]

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) are made under the HSW Act and their primary aim is to ensure that work equipment is used without risks to health and safety, regardless of its age, condition or origin. The requirements of PUWER that are relevant to woodworking machinery are set out in the Safe use of woodworking machinery Approved Code of Practice. PUWER has specific requirements for risk assessment which are covered under the Health and Safety Management Regulations. [Pg.457]
