Potassium Water

Carbon dioxide, carbon tetrachloride, and other chlorinated hydrocarbons. (Also prohibit potassium, water, foam and dry chemical on fires involving these metals—dry sand should be available). [Pg.1031]

Note. For potassium water glass the sodium salts of the alkyl ether carboxylic acids were used. TPPP, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate PS, potassium water glass. [Pg.331]

Fig. 23. (continued)—(b) An axial projection of the unit cell shows that the helices associate via car-boxylate potassium water carboxylate interactions. [Pg.364]

Two helices are packed antiparallel in the orthorhombic unit cell. Association of the helices occurs through a series of periodic carboxylate potassium water - carboxylate interactions. An axial projection of the unit-cell contents (Fig. 23b) shows that the helices and guest molecules are closely packed. This is the first crystal structure of a polysaccharide in which all the guest molecules in the unit cell, consistent with the measured fiber density, have been experimentally located from difference electron-density maps. The final / -value is 0.26 for 54 reflections, of which 43 are observed, and it is based on normal scattering factors.15... [Pg.364]

Selenophene was also obtained as the main component in the reaction between vinylacetylene and the selenium dianion, generated from elemental selenium (Se8), in dimethyl sulfoxide-potassium-water at 100-120°C.5° Bis-y,y-dimethylallenyl selenide (18) is converted by spontaneous cyclo-aromatization to 3-isopropenyl-4-isopropylselenophene (19).51 Two mechanisms are shown in Scheme 3. [Pg.138]

Figure 7). The gellan molecules are crosslinked by double-helix — potassium — water — potassium — double-helix interactions which are responsible for subsequent gelation process. [Pg.310]

Potassium water glass solutions are mainly utilized in the production of coatings for welding electrodes, as binders for luminescent pigments used in cathode ray tubes, for impregnating walls and as a binder for plasters. [Pg.340]

Figure 8. SAXS curves of a silica gel prepared at pH 3.9 from potassium water glass and hydrochloric acid a, freshly prepared silica gel recorded after 2 h of reaction b, same gel as in a, but after 1 year of aging at room temperature. The dotted line is a nonlinear least-squares fit of the fractal region in the curve and gives D = 2.0. The dashed line is from the Porod law (I < Q 4). In both a and b, two scattering curves measured at two different camera lengths (4.5 and 0.7 m) are combined to cover a broad scattering range (2 orders of magnitude in Q... Figure 8. Properties, The special properties of silicate paints are imparted by the binder, generally potassium water glass. The paint coats harden physically by evaporation of water, as well as chemically by several reactions. These stabilization and consolidation processes are termed silicification [2.176]. The water glass reacts as follows with atmospheric carbon dioxide ... [Pg.94]

Preparation. The catalyst used at Sasol is fairly similar (except for a few changes) to the catalyst that was developed by Ruhrchemie ((7), chapter 7, (20)). Scrap iron, together with copper metal, is dissolved in nitric acid, and the hydrated oxides are precipitated by the addition of a sodium carbonate solution. The type of oxide, the porosity and specific surface area depend on various factors such as the concentrations of the solutions, the precipitating temperature, and the final pH. The precipitate is washed and reslurried with water, and the appropriate amount of potassium water glass is added to yield the required amount... [Pg.979]
