Uses of Luminescent Pigments

In low-pressure (fluorescent) lamps the phosphor is excited by energy-rich mercury resonance lines at 254 and 185 nm. For many years the most important phosphors were the halophosphates. In the search for more efficient phosphors with greater [Pg.252]

Special applications of UV phosphors include fluorescent UV lamps for tanning (sun studios), photocopier lamps, and lamps for photochemistry, medicine, and varnish hardening. Examples are Ce(Mg, Ba)Al11019 (Amai = 344 nm), BaSi205 Pb2+ (351 nm), and (Ba, Zn, Mg)3 Si207 Pb2+ (303 nm). [Pg.253]
