Impregnation of exterior walls. Impregnation is carried out in order to protect vertical surfaces (exterior walls. Figure 6.17) or sharply sloping surfaces (rooves) against rain (Wacker-Chemie, 1983). Addition of dry powders to mineral finishing plaster imparts water repellency to plasters. [Pg.153]

The decorative plastic laminates widely used for countertops and cabinets are based on melamine—formaldehyde resin (see Laminates). Several layers of phenohc-saturated kraft paper are placed in a press and a sheet of a-ceUulose paper printed with the desired design and impregnated with melamine—formaldehyde resin is placed over them. Then a clear a-ceUulose sheet, similarly impregnated with the resin, is placed on top to form a clear, protective surface over the decorative sheet. The assembly is cured under heat and pressure up to 138°C and 10 MPa (1450 psi). Rotary compressors are positive-displacement machines. Figure iO-7 shows a typical vane compressor. The operation is similar to that of a vane pump shown schematically in Figure 10-10 of Volume 1, 2nd Edition (Figure 10-9 in 1st Edition). A number of vanes, typically from 8 to 20, fit into slots in a rotating shaft. The vanes slide into and out of the slots as the shaft rotates and the volume contained between two adjacent vanes and the wall of the compressor cylinder decreases. Vanes can be cloth impregnated with a phenolic resin, bronze, or aluminum. The more vanes the compressor has, the smaller the pressure differential across the vanes.
