Potassium interaction with

Potassium plays a key role in many important compounds in our world. For example, potassium interacts with pure oxygen to produce potassium superoxide (K02), which is used to make breathing devices like those that are used by firefighters and mine rescue workers. The potassium superoxide used in the devices reacts with exhaled carbon dioxide (C02) and water to produce oxygen, allowing people to breathe. [Pg.12]
