Polyolefin wax

These are highly effective external lubricants for PVC, with positive effect on gelation and surface quality of finished products. Polar polyethylene waxes have a pronounced anti-sticking effect and high molecular types are suitable for transparent items. Other waxes improve pigment dispersion and permit production of highly concentrated masterbatches with better colour yield. [Pg.210]

The new package is available with both homopolymer and copolymer materials, for nucleated and non-nucleated resins. [Pg.211]

EMS Chemie has developed Grilon MB additives, based on PA 6 or compatible copolyamides, for modification of nylon film. In masterbatch formulation, they improve processing speed by more rapid crystallization and presence of non-blocking agents. It is also possible to improve slip properties for the film and reduce coefficient of friction between film and steel, giving faster running on packaging machinery. [Pg.211]

An improvement in technology for lubrication of polyamide resins in packaging for food and medical products, is a new optimized package developed by AlliedSignal Plastics, for use with its Capron resins. Performance is said to equal or exceed current industry standards, with a reduced additive content. Among the advantages are 100% dust-free system, virtually zero gel level, reduction of screen pack changes, and improved aesthetics for finished films. [Pg.211]

Waxes. These are dispersions of polyethylenes, Fischer-Tropsh, Teflon, or vegetable waxes (qv) in a vehicle or solvent. They impart sHp and scuff resistance to ink films. Polyolefin waxes and Teflon are also available as powders that can be directly mixed into inks. [Pg.249]

Sesamex [51-14-9] (Sesoxane) (30) is a synergist oflow toxicity, acute oral LD q (rat) = 2000 2270 mg/kg, for pyrethrins and allethrin. 6,7-Dihydroxy 4-methylcoumarin has been offered as an antioxidant for phenoHcs and polymers, and as an anthelmintic. 2,4,5-Trihydroxybutyrophenone has been available as an antioxidant and light stabilizer for polyolefins, waxes, and foods. Isoflavones, eg (31), have been patented as components of antioxidant compositions for foods and cosmetics (qv) (97). [Pg.381]

In SEC analysis of additive extracts from polymers, the effect of the extraction solvent on the mobile phase is less critical than in HPLC analysis. The extraction solvents typically employed generally do not interfere with the SEC mobile phases. Moreover, the same solvents are often used both as extraction solvent and as mobile phase. Therefore, there is no need to evaporate the extract to dryness prior to analysis and then to redissolve it in a suitable solvent. Typical extraction procedures often produce extracts that generally contain a small amount of wax. Frequently, removal of such oligomers from an extract is necessary, e.g. by means of precipitation, centrifuging, precolumn filtration or protection (use of a reversed-phase guard column). In SEC separations the presence of polyolefin wax does not usually disturb provided that the MW of the wax is higher than that of the analysed compounds. [Pg.262]

Presented here are only the methods that the author has tested in practice on plastics wastes. The first attempts were undertaken in 1986 in a small pilot unit that dealt with wastes of polyolefin films used for packaging. Those wastes were nonpigmented, transparent and rather clean. They were provided by waste collectors in blocks of approximately 30 kg, intended for factories producing regenerated granules (recyclate). The intention was to show the potential of producing a polyolefin wax to be used in polish applications or in hot-melt glues from those wastes. [Pg.597]

In the particular case of transparent and sufficiently clean wastes, the production of polyolefin wax can be considered as described above. Such products have a higher commercial value than that of the new plastic material itself. [Pg.597]

The feeding tube with a length of 2-4 m, depending on its diameter, opens into a closed reactor where the wastes are heated up to approximately 360-380°C, at which temperature they are transformed into polyolefin wax after being cracked. [Pg.599]

The reactive methods of compatibili2ation developed subsequently allowed the second generation Noryl (a blend of PPO with PA) to be developed. The compositions claimed usually cover 30-70% of each of the main ingredients, PPO and PA, with additionally up to four parts of such modifier as polycarboxylic acid, trimellitic anhydride acid chloride, quinine, oxidized polyolefin wax, and so on. In most cases, PA forms a matrix with spherical inclusions of PPO acting as compatibilized low-density filler. [Pg.532]

Matting agents are used to produce coatings with a matt, semi-matt, or silk finish. They include natural mineral products such as talc or diatomites and synthetic materials such as pyrogenic silicas or polyolefin waxes. Matting can also be obtained by special formulations that exploit the incompatibility between binder components and their cross-linked structures. [Pg.6]

Lubricants can be fatty acids such as stearic acid or hydroxy stearic acid, esters such as stearates, amides or alcohols. Copolymers of styrene and an acrylate can be used. Paraffin and the montan waxes, ethylene bis-stearamide (EBS, or amide wax ), the oxidised polyethylene waxes, and other polyolefin waxes are also employed. [Pg.70]

In reinforced TPO, nonpolar polyolefin waxes act as internal lubricants, improving processing and, by giving better wetting to fillers, increasing the mechanical strength of the end products. The quantity to be used in TPO varies between 0.2-1.0%. [Pg.853]

Nonpolar lubricants are polyolefin waxes (R = Cj2o to P = -CHj) and paraffin waxes (R = C20 to CyQ, P = -CH3). Polar polyethylene waxes have functionalized structures with -OH, -CHO, -OR, and -COOH. [Pg.58]
