General industrial coatings

There are many different types of paint in use, all relatively sophisticated materials that are usually formulated for a specific customer or application. Table 8.11 shows the types of binders used and the solvents associated with them. There are many methods of application, all of which can be used for the resins shown in the table. The choice is usually dictated by the type of object to be coated and the finish required. Solvent choice is dictated by the application technique. [Pg.169]

Dip coating (or tumble coating) is ideal for small, mass-produced articles requiring single coat paint application. Quality of finish is not as high as spray coating and control of film thickness is difficult. Solvents used tend to be relatively simple systems of either medium or slow-evaporating solvents, the exact choice [Pg.169]

Throughout the paint industry, P.R.144 functions as a pigment in general industrial coatings, automotive finishes, and architectural paints. [Pg.382]

Other uses for alkyds are in general industrial coatings such as machinery and metal furniture. Alkyd resin-chlorinated rubber based coatings are used in traffic paints, but use is declining because of VOC concerns. Some alkyds are still used in refinish paints for automobiles. Uralkyds are used as a vehicle for urethane varnishes for the do-it-yourself market. [Pg.3327]

The choice of amino component depends on the end use. Butylated UF resins are principally used in low-temperature curing applications, such as wood and general industrial coatings. Small amounts of these resins are also employed in container coatings in combination with epoxy resins. With the development of high-solids coatings, urea resins have been replaced in many applications with HMMM-type resins. [Pg.84]
