Piping teflon lined

Shipment and Storage. Sulfur dichloride, if kept dry, is noncorrosive at ambient temperatures, thus carbon steel and Hon can be used Hi the constmction of tanks, piping, and dmms. However, when water or humidity is present, materials resistant to hydrochloric acid must be used, eg, glass-lined pipe. Teflon, titanium, HasteUoy C, or possibly a chemically resistant, glass-reiaforced polyester. Threaded pipe joHits should be assembled with Teflon tape. Hoses should be constmcted with a Teflon inner lining with the outer tube constmcted of Neoprene or braided 316 stainless steel protected by an adequate thickness of Teflon. Sulfur dichloride should be stored away from heat and away from dHect rays of the sum. Toluene and sulfur dichloride react exothermically when catalyzed by Hon or ferric chloride. Safety precautions should be foUowed when such a mixture is present (165). 

Chlorosulfuric acid attacks brass, bronze, lead, and most other nonferrous metals. From a corrosion standpoint, carbon steel and cast Hon are acceptable below 35°C provided color and Hon content is not a concern. Stainless steels (300-series) and certain aluminum alloys are acceptable materials of constmction, as is HasteUoy. Glass, glass-lined steel, or Teflon-lined piping and equipment are the preferred materials at elevated temperatures and/or high velocities or where trace Hon contamination is a problem, such as in the synthetic detergent industry.

The original project installed 3-inch (7.6 cm) Teflon-lined valve bodies and Teflon-lined plugs. Some of the supervisors seem to remember that the original valves were very stiff to operate. It is believed that well-meaning individuals requested easier operating valves, and no one worried about reviewing the plant specifications which were not always up-to-date. Even if piping specifications were consulted, this 3-inch (7.6 cm) branch fine on a 24-inch (61 cm) line was itself a plant modification that was not properly authorized. 

The reaction heat of H2SO4/H2O reacting with SO3 is removed in a heat exchanger, keeping the circulating acid temperature constant. Special steel equipment e.g. pipes and valves are made of teflon-lined materials. The (plate) heat exchanger is made of Hastelloy.

Teflon PEA 440 HP is a chemically modified form of PEA 340 that provides additional benefits such as enhanced purity and improved thermal stability. This product is suitable for producing tubing, pipe linings for production of ultrapure chemicals, semiconductor components, and fluid handling systems for high performance filters (31).

A PTFE-lined pipe was placed into the anolyte loop to demonstrate the resistance of P IPE (Teflon), a material of construction to be used in the full-scale system, to electrolyte corrosion attack. This pipe was removed and inspected at the end of the DMMP run. 

Compatibility of ethanol with tank and piping materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and Fiberglas is good. Zinc linings and epoxy linings are not stable in ethanol systems and are not recommended for use. Also, epoxy adhesives and resins are dissolved by ethanol. The recently developed modified PTFE (e.g., Teflon NXT), because of its improved processing, lower creep, improved permeation, less porosity and better insulation than standard PTFE, finds use in pipe and vessel linings, gaskets and seals, fluid-handling components, wafer processing, and electric and electronic industries. An example of a molded part from modified PTFE is shown in Figure 4.15. 

Lecotrac LTU-25I Coupled to an external probe, this analyzer allows fast in-line measurement. The external probe is constructed of rugged, flexible steel and can be attached to a process line via a 3/8-inch NPT pipe-thread mounting hardware. The probe tip consists of a sapphire window embedded in a stainless steel sleeve using Teflon seals.
