What are you good at You may want to ask friends and family members to help with this. Skills may be those acquired through learning and practice, such as playing an instrument, or personal attributes, such as leadership or willingness to follow the road less traveled. 

There are certain personal attributes over and above a medical degree and clinical experience that make for a successful pharmaceutical physician. To be valued, the pharmaceutical physician must be able to provide insight into the clinical benefit, and hence the commercial potential, of a compound at any stage in its development. He or she must also have the planning skills to realise that potential, and an ability to communicate at all levels, both inside and outside the company. If the medical department is to act as the compan)r s medical conscience (see Section 10.2),... 

Perhaps more than ever, women today are victimized by cultural standards of thinness. It is hard to think of a personal attribute more connected to self-esteem than weight. Sharlene Hesse-Biber has explored these matters in Am I Thin Enough Yet The Cult of Thinness and the Commercialization of Identity (New York Oxford University Press, 1996). 

The nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems. 

Managers are likely to be qualified by experience, perhaps supplemented by training. Personal attributes, and especially attitudes, are of critical importance, but this theme is not developed here. Educational attainment alone does not ensme that a manager has the competencies required to manage effectively. 

ISO 19011 2002 (2002) lists the following personal attributes for auditors (and includes further information on desired auditor qualifications) ... 

To those who were fortunate enough to know Hermann Fischer, his wonderful personal attributes are well known. His innate kindliness and his sincere concern for the welfare of others were hallmarks of his character. His penetrating perception of people and events identified him as a true scientist. His was, indeed, a meaningful and abundant life. 

Cattell s most important historical multi-way paper is that in which he defines multi-way arrays [Cattell 1952], He defines object, circumstance/time, attribute, scale and observer as the five ways for an idealized psychological multi-way array and quickly reduces this to person-attribute-circumstance three-way arrays for practical reasons. Figure 4.1 gives a simplified view of Cattell s first three-way array. Discussion of T, S, O, P, R and Q techniques is outside the scope of this book the figure is only given as an illustration. A real multi-way solution for analyzing such arrays was not given in the paper. 

In the past many persons attributed abnormally high oil secretion and the development of acne to the afflicted individual s diet and hygiene. However, current research suggests that oil secretion is under genetic control, primarily related to the abihty of androgenic hormones to stimulate oil secretion. The bacterial species Propionibacterium acnes is believed to play a role in converting acne into an inflammatory condition. Stress and the use of certain cosmetics may also be contributing factors. 

As with personal attributes, characteristics of the machinery, tools, technology, and materials used by the worker can influence the potential for an exposure or accident. One consideration is the extent to which machinery and tools influence the use of the most appropriate and effective perceptual/ motor skills and energy resources. The relationship between the controls of a machine and the action of that machine dictates the level of perceptual/motor skill necessary to perform a task. The action of the controls and the subsequent reaction of the machinery must be compatible with basic human perceptual/motor patterns. If not, significant interference with performance can occur which may lead to improper responses that can cause accidents. In addition, the adequacy of feedback about the action of the machine affects the performance efficiency that can be achieved and the potential for an operational error. 

Maximize the number of people who can use the machine or procedure. As mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, gender, age, strength, and other personal attributes should not prevent people from using the design. 

Personal quality pertains to the quality of personal attributes, trust, and characteristics that enable individuals to maintain excellent work ethics and performance. The critical factors in this area include personal attitude, skills, abilities, work habits, behaviors, integrity, trustworthiness, loyalty, dedication, and commitment to the successful achievement of organizational and personal mission and priorities. 

Audits are stressful for those being audited. No matter how good a plant s performance may be, there is every chance that the auditor is going to find something that indicates a problem and most problems and deficiencies are eventually traced back to specific individuals. Therefore, the personal attributes and demeanor of the auditor are extremely important. Some of these attributes include the following ... 

The personality and experience of the reviewer is of paramount importance to the quality of the review. To be effective in his or her analyses the reviewer has to have extensive plant experience. In addition to the personal attributes discussed under the role of auditor, the reviewer should possess considerable experience of process facilities similar to the one being audited. He or she should also have the strength of personality to be able to communicate opinions and suggestions to all levels of management within the host company. Ideally, the reviewer will also be able to generate creative solutions to previously intractable problems. 

A successful risk management professional needs to have personal attributes that match his or her technical knowledge and skills. Some of these attributes are discussed below. Of course, no single person can possess all of them, but the list does provide an oudine as to goals to aim for.

Absolute integrity is an obvious requirement since flie laws of physics cannot be negotiated out existence. Finally, the specialist s communications must be clearly translatable to effective action without disrupting normal rela-tlonsh4>B within the organization. 

In this paper, evolution of technical education in India has been explained. The importance of process-based model in the education sector is explained as an extension to the prevalent process orientation in the knowledge-based industry sectors. More importantly, as a significant contribution of this paper, the importance of personal attributes and personality attributes, predominantly, of the teaching faculty, which could, additionally, elevate the maturity of technical institutions to higher levels, is also discussed.
