Patch validity

Six coupled governing equations listed in Table 1 are valid in all regions of a PEFC, and fluxes at an internal boundary between two adjacent regions are automatically continuous. Such a single-domain model is well suited for CFD implementation. In contrast, multidomain models, such as the one developed by Dutta et al., compute separate solutions for the anode and cathode subdomains, respectively, and then patch the two solutions through the water transport flux across the MEA interface. Numerically, this model is characterized as a solver-in-solver situation. [Pg.497]

The emission equation is valid for each of the patches on a nonuniform surface, but the total measured current from the various patches depends on the relative magnitudes of the collecting field and patch fields, as well as on the work function. Hence, the effect of some patches may be out of proportion to their area and the average work function of a polycrystalline surface measured thermionically may differ somewhat from the true average work function... [Pg.83]

Apparatus. The nature of the dosage form will determine the type of dissolution apparatus that will be used for method development and validation. The following questions must be asked when selecting the dissolution apparatus. Is it a capsule Will a sinker be required How stable is the drug substance after dissolution in the medium Is the formulation an immediate release or an extended release formulation Is this a transdermal patch ... [Pg.57]

Strictly speaking, equations 19-52 and 19-53 are valid only if the pollutant cloud is infinitely long. A more realistic situation is treated in Box 19.2 here a pollutant patch of finite length L along the x-axis is eroded on both edges due to diffusion processes (turbulence, dispersion, etc.). Again, the boundary is of the diffusive type since the transport characteristics on both sides of the boundary are assumed to be identical. [Pg.868]

Some mouse strains may display pronounced balding patches due to alopecia (40) or increased auto- or hetero-barbering behavior (4-1 —43), which will make the coat state data less valid. Therefore, this model may not be used in high barbering strains. Likewise, stress per se may promote barbering in mice (44), thereby further confounding the coat assessment protocol. [Pg.278]

Use Versus Patch Tests The use test is a method frequently employed to estimate the potential sensitizing ability of a product. Such a test is usually conducted by distributing the product to a large test panel, (e.g., the inhabitants of one or more large cities). Should the product be found acceptable to the general public, (e.g., tolerated without many serious complaints of injury), the manufacturer may feel justified in substituting this test procedure. The use test does not afford information on the product s acceptability and safety for use, and it is generally considered unsatisfactory since it lacks proper medical or other supervision of the test subject. Because of the lack of supervision, it is difficult to confer validity to the results, such as the extent of individual use, the nature, number, and seriousness of adverse reactions that the test chemical may produce. [Pg.474]

Such an expression is expected to be valid when the promoting action is limited to the perimeter of the promoter patches on the metal surface. Three steps can in principle be influenced by promoters (transition metal oxides) ... [Pg.172]

A key assumption of all of these techniques is that the patch or garment captures and retains chemicals in a manner similar to that of skin. This assumption, however, has not been validated systematically. Ideally, patches and garments, employed as dermal samplers, would be pre-tested for their ability to absorb and retain the particular chemical under study. [Pg.25]

Software changes Assess software updates for compatibility with the existing software with particular emphasis on any changes made. In terms of system or standard software products, there is normally a bug fix list and details of new, modified, and removed features. Supplier s documentation should include an analysis of the impacts of the patch on their system, and this should be used by the customer to assess the extent of testing required to validate the patch implementation. These documents should be assessed to determine the effects of the change and any appropriate testing performed and incorporated into a validation dossier. [Pg.536]

Upgrades due to developments, inclnding the installation of bug Axes (patches), must be tightly controlled by the personnel responsible for LIMS. Following the production of the Validation Report, LIMS is deemed to be in a validated state (snbject to any issues raised in that report). Changes at the operating system, database system, and application levels must be assessed for impacts on the validated status of LIMS. [Pg.536]

Whether it is for the development of new package formats, such as for intranasal drug administration or transdermal patches, or for more traditional delivery systems, such as cycle packs, solutions, or aerosols, the need to educate employees involved in the processing is essential to the transfer program s success. Identifying and controlling process variables are necessary while experience is gained, and the process is optimized and validated. [Pg.3723]

An important method using fungi is Daniels test for phototoxicity, which utilizes the yeast Candida albicans as the test organism. A 1988 study compared favorably the results of this test with the results of photo-patch testing in volunteers for samples from six furocoumarin-containing plants. Many test materials which produce an erythemic response in the photoirritant test are not analyzed as positive in this test. A new test method, Solatex-pi, has demonstrated capability to predict the potential for photoirritation of materials in this class as well as that of other well-known photoirritants. Solatex-pi utilizes the two compartment physicochemical model of Skintex to predict the interactive effects of specific chemicals and UV radiation. Solatex-pi is being validated by Frame and the BGA (Zebet) as an in vitro test to predict photoirritants. [Pg.2651]

The paraquat ELISA developed in our laboratory started with the synthesis of the valeric acid derivative of paraquat (I) as hapten, and took well over one man-year to develop(7) (Figure 1). It is a very good method with fractional nanogram/mL sensitivity and (once fully validated) precision slightly better than the GC method. It is applicable to air filters, clothing patches, and hand washes, and showed promise for lymph and plasma analysis. The sample throughput was greater than GC and the method could be picked up rapidly by persons not skilled in the art. (Novices frequently pick up IA much faster than veteran analysts with a history of GC and HPLC experience ). [Pg.159]

Note 7 Fluorescence percentage represents the permeability of K+ channels or activity of Na+/K+ pump. The system has the potential to replace manual patch clamp or flow cytometric measurements of cardiotoxicity predictions. The potential needs to be further validated with new protocols involving testing of various cardiotoxic compounds and its direct comparison with these systems. [Pg.62]

It is illuminating to study the time evolution of a river plume as an initial value problem. It can be shown that the current pattern is governed by a geostrophically adjusted eddy confined to the buoyancy patch (near field) and a coastally trapped flow that develops in the wake of a Kelvin wave (far field). Behind the front of the first Kelvin wave mode, undercurrents are set up. Although the velocities of the flow forced by the momenrnm of the river mnoff are small enough to justify a linear treatment, there are important nonlinear effects owing to the advection of density, which limits the validity of the linear analytical models. In particular, the structure of the near field in front of the river mouth is dominated by the response to the buoyancy flux associated with the river discharge. [Pg.601]
