We had two patients with allergic patch-test reactions to cellulase and xylanese (Tarvainen et al. 1991b, Table 3). Cellulase and xylanase were tested in a dilution series (3.3%> i%> 0.33%) in petrolatum and aqua. As a control, 20 non-exposed subjects (10 atopies) were patch tested with a concentration of 3.3% w/v in petrolatum, with negative results. Currently, scanty data are available on how to patch test with industrial enzymes. Optimal patch test concentrations need to be established for each enzyme, and controls are necessary. [Pg.521]

Alachlor is a pre-emergence herbicide. Iden and Schroeter reported five individuals with positive allergic patch-test reactions to alachlor [97]. Three of 21 patients patch tested to alachlor reacted to both alachlor (Lasso) and propachlor (Ramro). Further studies may help clarify whether these were irritant or allergic patch-test reactions. Won et al. [98] documented allergic contact dermatitis from alacholor. Ten controls patch tested to alachor were performed one had a late reaction thought to be active sensitization. [Pg.790]

Zussman (1987) reported a bank teller who had an allergic patch-test reaction to formaldehyde. Formaldehyde resin was found to have been used in the processing of the paper currency. Paper money applied to his palmar surfaces caused a recurrence of vesicles, itching and dermatitis. [Pg.1038]

Pyrethroids are neurotoxic synthetic compounds used as insecticides. Cypermethrin and fenvalerate have been reported as causing positive allergic patch tests, but only fenvalerate was relevant in an agricultural worker. [Pg.1169]

Such tests are suitable for identifying highly irritant material, not for comparing irritancy potential of different products. Repeated open application tests are also frequently used to verify the clinical significance of allergic patch test reactions [55]. [Pg.483]

Recently Aiani and Alani (54 ) described a case of sensitivity to epinephrine eyedrops the patient showed positive allergic patch test reactions to the chloride solution of epinephrine, and furthermore reacted unexpectedly positive to diisopropyl fluoro-phosphate (DFP). There was no history of contact with pesticides of the organophos-phate group, which would explain this sensitivity to be of the cross-sensitivity type. [Pg.131]
