E. Low Panel Test. This test is similar to a certain extent to that described as item C. Here, four cylindrical quadrants of wooden panels surround the bomb at distances from it of 10, 20, 30 40 meters. Each panel is 7/8 thick, 12 wide and 5.57 ft high to simulate the size of a man. A bomb is detonated statically and the number of fragments passing thru the panels at different distances is counted and the distribution of fragments is recorded (Ref 1, p213)... [Pg.133]

Following previous works on physico-chemical characterisation of sunflower low-methoxyl pectins (Alarc o-Silva, 1990, Leitao at al., 1995) and technological utilisation in the manufacture of low calorie gels (Alarc o-Silva et al., 1992), this investigation was carried out to test the suitability of that pectin to the confection of grape juice reduced calorie jellies in comparison with two types of commercial pectin. The amount of sugar actually incorporated in most cured meats is probably too low to impart a definitely sweet taste to the product, but it may serve to soften the brashness of the salt (16, 17). Bacon represents an exception, as the cooked product contains a higher percentage of sugar, which imparts a sweet taste. When hams and pork butts were cured with and without sugar and subjected to taste panel tests (1, 10, 2U), the results indicated that sugar is not a dominant factor in the flavor of these products. A mixture of PhenoHc MicrobaUoons and resin binder has a putty-like consistency. It can be molded to shape, troweUed onto surfaces, or pressed into a core. Curing gives a high strength, low density (0.144 g/cm ) foam free of voids and dense areas, and without a brittle skin. Syntactic foams are used in widely diverse appHcations, including boat flotation aids stmctural parts in aircraft, submarines, and missiles stmctural cores for waU panels and ablative heat shields for reentry vehicles and rocket test engines. [Pg.308]

This test measures the ability of a tape to resist creep under applied load. The test is covered in ASTM D-3654 and PSTC-7. A specified area (typically 12.7 mmx 12.7 mm) of conditioned tape is rolled down with a specified pressure on the substrate of choice, such as polished 302 stainless steel. The panel is fixed in the vertical position or up to 2° tilted back so that there is no element of low angle peel in the test (Fig. lb). A weight (often 1000 g) is fixed to the end of the tape and the time to failure, i.e. complete detachment from the plate, is measured. Infrequently, the time required for the tape to creep a given distance is measured and reported. [Pg.470]

Tinplate and Solder. The tests were carried out to determine the effect of low temperature irradiation on the metallurgical properties of the tinpalte, solder, and soldered lap joints. Two types of tinplate were used 43 kg (95 lb), Type MR-TU and 43 kg (95 lb), Type MR-T2, both coated with No. 25 electrolytic tinplate. The test specimens were 20 X 20 cm panels. [Pg.31]

To test if dilution of the products of CNO burning may explain the difference in abundance pattern with evolved giants and a possible excess in 12 C visible in N-rich stars (see left panel of Fig. 4), we use simple models in the plane [C/N] vs [O/N] (right panel of Fig. 4). Starting from the approximate composition of N-poor stars, the trend for different fractions of gas processed in the complete CNO-cycle (solid line) reproduces fairly well the data, albeit it predict too low C abundances for N-rich dwarfs. Pollution from RGB stars with composition N-rich from very deep mixing (complete CNO and Na enrichment involved, dotted line) reproduces also rather well the data, apart for N-rich dwarfs. On the other hand, the N-poor case, typical of the chemical composition of field RGB stars, is a very poor match (dashed line). Moreover, in this case, the model would predict C-poor, Na-poor stars, whereas no one is observed among over 40 dwarfs/subgiants in the 3 clusters. [Pg.98]
