Parameters affecting

The quahtative flow distribution in a manifold can be estimated by examining a streamline plot. Figure 13 shows the streamline plot for the manifold having AR = 4. Note that the same amount of fluid flows between two consecutive streamlines. The area ratio is an important parameter affecting the flow distribution in a manifold, as shown in Figure 14a, which shows the percent flow rate in each channel for three cases. As the area ratio increases, the percent flow rate increases in channels no. 1 and no. 8, whereas the percent flow rate decreases in the middle channels. [Pg.497]

The principal parameters affecting the size of droplets produced by twin-fluid atomizers have also been discussed (34). These parameters include Hquid viscosity, surface tension, initial jet diameter (or film thickness), air density, relative velocity, and air—Hquid ratio. However, these parameters may have an insignificant effect on droplet size if atomization occurs very rapidly near the atomizer exit. [Pg.333]

Sweeteners. The sweeteners (qv) used in carbonated beverages may be either nutritive or noimutritive. The quaUty of the sweetener is one of the most important parameters affecting the overall quaUty of the beverage. Organoleptic profile (taste and odor), solubiUty, microbial stabiUty, and temperature stabiUty are important quaUty parameters. [Pg.11]

The study of the combustion of sprays of Hquid fuels can be divided into two primary areas for research purposes single-droplet combustion mechanisms and the interaction between different droplets in the spray during combustion with regard to droplet size and distribution in space (91—94). The wide variety of atomization methods used and the interaction of various physical parameters have made it difficult to give general expressions for the prediction of droplet size and distribution in sprays. The main fuel parameters affecting the quaHty of a spray are surface tension, viscosity, and density, with fuel viscosity being by far the most influential parameter (95). [Pg.525]

Emulsions Almost eveiy shear rate parameter affects liquid-liquid emulsion formation. Some of the efrecds are dependent upon whether the emulsion is both dispersing and coalescing in the tank, or whether there are sufficient stabilizers present to maintain the smallest droplet size produced for long periods of time. Blend time and the standard deviation of circulation times affect the length of time it takes for a particle to be exposed to the various levels of shear work and thus the time it takes to achieve the ultimate small paiTicle size desired. [Pg.1636]

Parameters Affeeting Gas Dispersion A wide variety of parameters affect the dispersion of gases. These include (1) wind speed, (2) atmospheric stability, (3) local terrain characteristics, (4) height of the release above the ground, (5) release geometry, i.e. from a point, line, or area source, ( momentum of the material released, and (7) buoyancy of the material released. [Pg.2340]

The following briefly reviews the parameters that affect erosion and the programs instituted by Elliott to obtain basic erosion data. The data from these studies have been integrated into Elliott s erosion prediction program. Table 4-13 lists some of the more important parameters affecting expander blade erosion from solid particles. Many of these parameters directly relate to the particle itself. [Pg.246]

A key parameter in the generation of fuel vapor is the temperature level reached in the fuel tank during vehicle operation. As the temperature approaches the top of the fuel distillation curve, a sizable increase in vapor generation will occur, which severely impacts the amount of HC vapor that the carbon canister system must handle. Limiting the temperature increase in the fuel tank is an important parameter affecting the ability of the evaporative emission system to maintam allowable emission Levels. [Pg.261]

The rate of vapor generation during refueling is a major parameter affecting the design of carbon canisters to meet ORVR requirements. [Pg.266]

First order parameters affecting dispersion stem from meteorological conditions. These, as much as any other consideration, determine how a stack is to be designed for air pollution control purposes. Since the operant transport mechanisms are determined by the micro-meteorological conditions, any attempt to predict ground-level pollutant concentrations is dependent on a reasonable estimate of the convective and dispersive potential of the local air. The following are meteorological conditions which need to be determined ... [Pg.289]

KMn04 and different parameters affecting the grafting process, e.g., reaction temperature, reaction time, and monomer concentration, were investigated to ascertain the optimum conditions of the grafting process [23]. [Pg.534]

The second important parameter affecting efficiency is air/fuel ratio. For evei y hydrocarbon fuel, there is an air/fuel ratio that, in principle, causes all the hydrogen in the fuel to burn to water vapor and all the carbon in the fuel to burn to carbon dioxide. This chemically correct proportion is called the stoichiometric ratio. [Pg.564]

It is important for predictive maintenance programs using vibration analysis to have accurate, repeatable data. In addition to the type and quality of the transducer, three key parameters affect data quality the point of measurement, orientation, and transducer-mounting techniques. [Pg.687]

Grouping the data points by common shaft enables the analyst to evaluate all parameters affecting each component of a machine-train. [Pg.701]

Equations (141) and (142) describe the equilibrium between the hydrolysis of complex fluoride acids (shift to the right) and the fluorination of hydroxides (shift to the left). Near complete precipitation of hydroxides can be achieved by applying an excessive amount of ammonia. Typically, precipitation is performed by adding ammonia solution up to pH = 8-9. However, the precipitate that separates from the mother solution can be contaminated with as much as 20% wt. fluorine [490]. Analysis of niobium hydroxides obtained under different precipitation conditions showed that the most important parameter affecting the fluorine content of the resultant hydroxide is the amount of ammonia added [490]. Sheka et al. [491] found that increasing the pH to 9.6 toward the end of the precipitation process leads to a significant reduction in fluorine content of the niobium hydroxide. [Pg.293]
