Objectives of the design

The primary objective of the RCSASs is to ensure that an adequate flow and quality of coolant are available to remove heat from the core in aU operational states and in and following design basis accident conditions. The RCSASs may also be used to mitigate the consequences of design basis accidents and beyond design basis accidents. [Pg.5]

Other objectives of the RCSASs include reactivity control, chemical control of the reactor coolant and the removal of heat from other safety [Pg.5]

All these objectives should be met by means of appropriate design provisions. These provisions may vary with the reactor type, the operating conditions and the location of the plant (e.g. in terms of environmental conditions). [Pg.5]

To achieve the above mentioned objectives, the design of the RCSASs should serve the following purposes  [Pg.5]

The safety objectives of the RCSASs as defined in paras 3.2 and 3.3 should not be compromised by the failure of the components of the RCSASs. [Pg.6]

For most traditional materials, the objective of the design method is to determine stress values which will not cause fracture. However, for plastics it is more likely that excessive deformation will be the limiting factor in the selection of working stresses. Therefore this chapter looks specifically at the deformation behaviour of plastics and fracture will be treated separately in the next chapter. [Pg.42]

The primary objectives of the designer when specifying instrumentation and control schemes are ... [Pg.227]

The objective of the design/analysis process is to ensure (as far as possible) that the correct quantity of air flows through each hood. As different air quantities, hood types/sizes and/or duct lengths usually are involved, this is not always a simple task. The correct air flows may be achieved by performing ... [Pg.754]

The primary objective of the design is to deliver a uniform film over the deposition zone. A secondary, but still important, consideration is to use the reactive gas as efficiently as possible (i.e., deliver as mush Cd to the wafers as possible and thus mimimize the Cd vapor in the exhaust). [Pg.334]

Below is the definition of which sections shall be inclnded in the WAN Design Specification. Due to the particular objective of the design, the diagrams and drawings are strongly recommended to define WAN. [Pg.892]

The flammability limits depend on the temperature and pressure. At elevated temperatures and pressures, a given mixture may be flammable, even if this is not the case at ambient conditions. It is a key objective of the design of the inlet zone of a CPO reactor to prevent ignition and thermal combustion. [Pg.2941]

As the points in the score plots are often unevenly distributed, it will usually not be possible to select items which define perfect settings in each quadrant so that an orthogonal design as expressed in the score values is obtained. This does not really matter, since the objective of the design is to ensure a sufficient spread of the... [Pg.444]

Considerable effort has been concentrated on the development of a plant design which has an acceptable criticality safety case, but which is not constrained in terms of its flexibility to process a wide variety of feed material and manufacture a wide range of fuel assemblies. The principal objective of the design was to make the plant inherently safe where practicable for normal operations and potential fault conditions. Only where this objective is not practicable are additional safety protection systems provided. This enhances the robustness of the safety of the plant and reduces the requirement for potentially complex safety protection systems. [Pg.169]

A number of variations of this design have been done with different levels of instrumentation. The objective of the design is to detect the dangerous failures of the valve assembly. This can be very important especially in S1L3 applications. [Pg.170]

Liquid enters from the downcomer at the left, flows through the zone aerated by the upflowing vapor, and departs into the downcomer at the right. A two-phase mixture exists on the tray and it may be either liquid-continuous (a bubbly froth) or vapor-continuous (a spray), or some combination of the two. The objective of the designer is to determine the mass transfer efficiency and pressure drop brought about by this contacting action resultant typical performance profiles are shown in Fig. S.7-S. [Pg.277]

The objective of the design is to relieve the pressure buildup due to fission gas without permitting ingress of sodium into the fuel while meeting the fuel design criteria. A single fuel pin is shown in Fig. 5. The fuel... [Pg.82]

Chapter 3 includes intended uses of the CEDA. The aim and overall purpose of the CEDA is to measure creativity specihc to engineering design. The objective of the designs are to help enrich people s lives and to beneht humankind. The importance of creativity in STEM, Industry, NASA and the military are discussed in this section. Conclusions are also described. Eor further information regarding administration and scoring, please contact the author. Contact information appears at the end of the Acknowledgements section. [Pg.8]

The process flowsheet has two feed streams a pure liquid toluene stream at ambient conditions, and a gaseous hydrogen stream consisting of 95 mole percent hydrogen and 5 mole percent methane, at lOOoF and 560 psia. The objective of the design is to produce... [Pg.383]

For purposes of design, the reaction regime can be determined from laboratory experiments carried out within the framework of the analytical methods described so far. The basic objectives of the design are then to minimize the reactor volume and the energy required for a given production rate. The overall strategy can be stated as follows ... [Pg.361]

It has often been said that concrete is destined to crack. The purpose of proper design and the objective of the design engineer are to minimize cracking without the expectation of eliminating it. When cracking does develop, it is important to determine the basic causes, as well as its extent, before deciding on the method of repair. [Pg.805]
