Operating leases

The categories of drivers who are subject to the provisions of this part. (2) Your policy must list (not by name, but by type) the drivers you use who are affected by your written drug and alcohol policy. This means if your company uses owner operators, leased drivers, part-time or seasonal drivers, etc., the type(s) of driver must be listed in your policy. [Pg.245]

There are many safety and operations managers in the motor carrier industry who still believe owner-operators, leased, temporary, and part-time drivers are not really employees of the company. [Pg.284]

DOT Numbers for Owner-Operators, Leasing/Rental Companies... [Pg.489]

On October 13, 2012, the FMCSA inactivated all registrant-only USDOT numbers. Registrant-only numbers were introduced in 1999 for entities that owned commercial motor vehicles but did not operate them as motor carriers, generally leasing/rental companies and owner-operators leasing to an authorized carrier. Because they were not motor carriers, they did not have a USDOT number. This became a problem with the implementation of PRISM, a program that connected DOT safety performance with vehicle licensing. [Pg.489]

A second type of lease exists a capital lease. It simulates ownership and forces the company to show the asset on the balance sheet through the asset and liability accounts. A company using a leased asset tries to have the lease classified as an operating lease rather than as a capital lease to keep the lease obligation off the balance sheet. Certain criteria must be met before a company can classify a lease as an operating lease. Although this is beyond the scope of the book, it... [Pg.52]

We lease certain retail locations, warehouses, distribution centers, office space, land, equipment and software. Assets held under capital leases are included in property and equipment. Operating lease rentals are expensed on a straight-line basis over the life of the lease beginning on the date we take possession of the property. At lease inception, we determine the lease term by assuming the exercise of those renewal options that are reasonably assured. The exercise of lease renewal options is at our sole discretion. The lease term is used to determine whether a lease is capital or operating and is used to calculate straight-line rent expense. Additionally, the depreciable life of leased assets and leasehold improvements is limited by the expected lease term. ... [Pg.53]

Land Lease Costs. If there are annual payments for land use, this item of expense is often kept separate from other operating costs, since it does not inflate at the same rate as other costs. If the land is purchased, it cannot be depreciated for tax purposes. [Pg.241]

Current tax laws allow deductions from revenues for sales expenses, operating costs, amortizations, lease costs, interest payments, depreciation, and depletion. [Pg.242]

Tax and economic conditions can make leasing a feasible method of financing hydrocarbon processing facilities. The operating company leases the plant from an investor. [Pg.245]

Energy audits are also leveraged with a system commonly called over the fence energy. In this scheme, the end-user does not buy equipment, but purchases a commodity such as steam, heat, or compressed air from a third party. The third party owns, leases, or operates the equipment used to provide the energy service. It is then in the interest of that third party to ensure that energy audits are routinely carried out and unnecessary energy use is kept to... [Pg.97]

The oil and gas lease under homestead law would simply be the right to conduct drilling operations on a person s surface property. The lease would not constitute a claim to minerals found under a particular surface area as under the rule of capture rule. Since the resci voir could be reached from different surface locations with slant drilling, the economic rent of a homestead lease would be far less than the value of a capture-rule lease. The difference in value would accrue to the driller-finder, thereby encouraging production by making drilling more efficient and profitable. [Pg.962]

Bureau of Land Management, Onshore Oil and Gas Order No. 1 Approval of Operations on Onshore Federal and Indian Oil and Gas Leases, United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Washington, D.C., 1983. [Pg.1383]

In Albany, NY, the state government started leasing Honda FCX hydrogen fuel cell cars on a cold November morning. Previous fuel cell vehicle demonstration programs have occurred in warmer areas to ensure that the fuel cell stacks would not freeze up. Subzero temperatures can change any liquid water present into expanding ice crystals that can puncture thin membranes or crack water lines. Honda has demonstrated that their fuel cell units can operate under winter conditions, this was an important achievement for practical fuel cell cars. [Pg.179]

CSI began development of its own hydroxylamine production process through laboratory-scale experimentation in 1997. Development continued with the construction of a 10 gal pilot plant, which was operational in early 1998. In July 1998, CSI leased approximately 20,000 square feet in a multiple-tenant building and began to set up the production facility. [Pg.170]

For this reason, leasing concepts have been proposed, which would involve providing the battery packs to the vehicle owner on an operating-cost basis with little or no up-front investments for the customer. [Pg.237]
