Books for the professional scientific community fall into one of three categories proceedings volumes, monographs, and handbooks. 

Detailed information on radioimmunoassay can be found in an outstanding review containing 591 references by Skelley et al. and in many monographs and handbooks, e.g. 

The present chapter, therefore, will present certain topics based on a selection of references, mainly in view of providing a perception of the current developments and great potential of chitin today. The reader is referred to books and reviews [1-17] where basic information and specific subjects are treated in a more systematic way. These polysaccharides are described not only in encyclopaedias, handbooks, monographs and articles, but also in the American Standard Testing Materials standard guides and in the Pharmacopoeias of various coimtries [10,16,17].

Useful sources of information on these elements and their componnds inclnde the Gmelin Handbook / with extensive np-to-date coverage, and regular comprehensive reviews in the Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of the Rare Earths / General acconnts of the elements, their inorganic chemistry, and coordination chemistry exist, the latter being the most np-to-date. There are also recent monographs, and compilations of in-depth and informed articles on different aspects of lanthanide chemistry and spectroscopy. ... 

In this chapter we outline the sources of information about biochemistry and molecular biology that are available in the literature. We start with textbooks, of which there are many, with different emphases, before moving on to more specialised monographs and then the primary literature in scientific journals. The subject is well served by reference books, practical handbooks, and periodicals which summarise methodological aspects, and these are considered next. There then follows a brief discussion of computer-based literature searches. The chapter concludes with advice about the use of protocols in biochemical and molecular biological experiments and keeping proper records of experimental work in laboratory books. 

There are a number of reference pubhcations in the field of membrane technology, such as handbooks, monographs, and compendia of conference and workshop proceedings. The relative abundance of such works begs the questions, Why another and How wdl this one be different These questions are probably best answered by considering what the Handbook of Membrane Separations Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Food, and Biotechnological Applications has to offer. The handbook covers the full spectrum of membrane technology and discusses its advancement and applications in a series of chapters written by experts, prominent researchers, and professionals from all over the world. 

The first edition of the Handbook was published in 1986 and contained 145 monographs. This was followed by the second edition in 1994 containing 203 monographs, the third edition in 2000 containing 210 monographs and the fourth edition in... 

Basic science in the general field of macromolecules includes the principles of their synthesis the investigation of the size and structure of individual molecules in solution, and the relationship between structure and properties in the bulk phase. Approximately 450 scientists in 90 laboratories all over the world devote the major portion of their time to basic science in the subject field. The results of their work are published in about 150 technical journals which include literature on plastics. Reviewing the literature at present is difficult. The author suggests services which include a weekly news letter, monthly journal for papers, semiannual journal for review articles, and formula and data sheets in addition to regularly appearing monographs, textbooks, and handbooks. 

In addition there will be monographs, textbooks, and handbooks written by specialists in the field as the progress in polymer science and the demand for comprehensive documentation and information justify their publication. 

Information on performing the calculations and the special precautions to be observed may be obtained from the fairly numerous appropriate text and handbooks Table 1 summarizes the individual methods and their applicability. More detailed advice can be found in the comprehensive books of W. H. and W. L. Bragg and in the well known monographs of R. W. G. Wyckoff and G. L. Clark. ... 

The original edition of the Handbook of Adhesion was published in 1992. It was intended to fill a gap between the necessarily simplified treatment of the student textbook and the fnll and thorough treatment of the research monograph and review article. It provided concise and authoritative articles covering many aspects of the science and technology associated with adhesion and adhesives. The articles were structured in such a way, with internal cross-references and external literature references, that the reader could build up a broader and deeper understanding, as the particular need required. 

During the past fifty years, an extraordinary amount of research has been conducted on sUicon nitride (and the sialons see Section 11.3.4), with much of the acquired data being recorded in monographs (e.g., Belyi et al., 1988 Hoffmann et al., 1994 Sangster, 2005) and handbooks (e.g., Gmelin, 1994 Gmelin, 1995 Petzow and Herrmann, 2002). 

This chapter surveys the metathesis polymerization of substituted acetylenes, focusing on research carried out during this decade. Monomers, polymerization catalysts, controlled polymerizations, polymers, and polymer properties are discussed. Readers are encouraged to also consult Chapter 3.11 of the first edition of Handbook of Metathesis [1] for more details on metathesis polymerization on acetylenes. Other monographs and review articles are also available concerning various aspects of chemistry of substituted polyacetylenes (PA)s [2-29]. 

These properties as well as their dependences on various factors (F,)—PrfF,)—are presented in Table 1 where the literature (articles, monographs, encyclopaedias, handbooks, etc.) containing information about them is classified. Only a limited number of data are presented here in tabular and graphical form. All properties and dependences presented in tabular and graphical form are accompanied by corresponding references which are underlined in Table 1. 

In Table 2.1 the selection criteria and associated properties of fast reactor coolants are described. In this section a selection of thermal, physical, and chemical properties (mainly those relevant for the assessment of corrosion behavior) are discussed, while for a complete overview of these properties a number of handbooks, monographs, and reference articles are available in the open literature [15—17]. Table 2.5 summarizes main thermophysical and chemical data of the liquid Na, Pb, and Pb-Bi. 

The wavelengths and energies of the characteristic emission lines have been accurately measured and tabulated in handbooks, monographs and reference works for all chemical elements with Z > 2. 

Mrs. Pawlowska is an author and co-author of fifty five papers and book chapters, two monographs, one handbook on biofuels, five patents and several patent applications. She is also the co-editor of two monographs.
