Minor bums

Topical anesthetics temporarily inhibit the conduction of impulses from sensory nerve fibers. These drug s may be used to relieve itching and pain due to skin conditions, such as minor bums, fungus infections, insect bites, rashes, sunburn, and plant poisoning, such as poison ivy. Some are applied to mucous membranes as local anesthetics. Examples of local anesthetics include benzocaine (Lanacane), dibucadne (Nupereainal), and lidocaine (Xylocadne). 

That s an attitude you might hold while working in the laboratory. You are NOT going to do anything, or get anything done to you, that will require medical attention. If you do get cut, and the cut is not serious, wash the area with water. If there s serious bleeding, apply direct pressure with a clean, preferably sterile, dressing. For a minor bum, let cold water run over the burned area. For chemical bums to the eyes or skin, flush the area with lots of water. In every case, get to a physician if at all possible. 

France The flowering tip has traditional use externally for chapped skin, insect bites, minor bums, pruritus, and rash. It is permitted for use in temporary relief of sore throat and hoarseness. 

One afternoon in June 1988, in an Ohio River Valley plant a similar incident occurred. Regrettably, three employees received relatively minor bums, abrasions, and lacerations during a fire and an overpressurization of a tank containing about a 3-ft. (1 m) level of a combustible liquid. At the time of the incident, a welder was repairing a moderate-sized vessel—25-ft, (7.6 m) high and 20 ft. (6.1 m) in diameter.

Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Aloe vera juice treats minor bums, insect bites, and sunburn, and is a powerful laxative when taken internally. In small doses, it increases menstrual flow. 

Boric acid, a topical antiinfective agent (fill ear canal with solution and plug with cotton repeat t.i.d. or q.i.d.), is used for the treatment of external ear canal infection. In addition, 5% ointment is used for the relief of abrasions, dry skin, minor bums, insect bites, and other skin irritations. 

Dibncaine, an amine local anesthetic (1% ointment, 0.5% cream), is nsed topically for temporary relief of pain and itching associated with abrasions, sunburn, minor bums, hanor-rhoids, and other minor skin conditions (see also Figure 31). 

Dyclonine, a topical local anesthetic, is indicated in the relief of pain and itching from minor bums, insect bites, or irritations, or episiotomy or anogenital lesion and in anesthetizing mucous membranes before endoscopic procedures such as laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, or endotracheal procedures. For example, for bronchoscopy, dyclonine (1% solution) is sprayed into the larynx and trachea every 5 minutes until laryngeal reflex is abolished. Dyclonine blocks conduction of impulses at the sensory nerve endings by altering cell membrane permeability to ionic transfer. 

In addition, it is used in pruritis, minor bums, insect bites, sunburn, and skin irritations. Tripelennamine competes with histamine for the Hj receptor, thereby ameliorating histamine effects in target tissues, but does not prevent the release of histamine. 

The first two issues involve the benefits of a standard—e.g., the seriousness of the consumer injury it purports to prevent (death, serious illness, minor bums, etc.), the number of people who might be exposed to that injury, and the likely effectiveness of the standard in reducing the injury s occurrence. 

HEALTH SYMPTOMS Inhalation (dizziness, difficult breathing, shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, narcosis, irritates eyes, skin and respiratory tract) eyes (redness, pain, minor bums) skin (redness, blisters) ingestion (drowsiness, headache, tissue lesions). 

It is mostly employed as a topical anaesthetic for the relief of insect bites, hemmoroids, and minor wounds. As the drug shows a stinging and burning sensation, hence it must not be used for the eyes, nose and throat at all. The local anaesthetic action commences in 3-5 minutes its potency is fairly comparable to that of benzocaine and is not adequate to abolish the gag reflex. It is also indicated in a 1% (w/v) solution for the rapid relief of pain in rectal surgery, episiotomies, anogenital pruritus, itching dermatoses and minor bums. 

Minor Bums— All first-degree bums are considered minor as well as second-degree bums covering less than IS percent of the body. 

J. First Aid Cuts, Minor Bums, and Acid or Base Bums... 

The defendant must take the victim as he or she finds him or her - this is known as the egg shell skull principle and was established in Smith v. Leach Brain and Co. Limited in which a workman who was predisposed to cancer, developed the disease from a minor bum and di. It was held that the defendant could not avoid liability simply because the claimant was peculiarly vulnerable. It has since been established that the same principle applies in cases of severe psychiatric reaction to the defendant s negligence. 

Traditional Medicine. The leaf and bark are reportedly used internally to treat diarrhea and externally to treat mouth and throat irritations, hemorrhoids, eye inflammation, insect bites, minor bums, and other skin irritations, usually as a decoction, poultice, or ointment. They have also been used in cancers. ...

With sheet hydrogel, the hydrophilic polymers, typically polyacrylamide or polyethylene oxide, are partially cross-linked to form a membrane with sufficient water-holding hydrophilic sites. Typically a hydrogel contains about 96% water. When applied to wound sites such as dermabrasions, minor bums, and skin donor sites, they relieve pain and reduce trauma on both application and removal of the dressings. Hydrogels can be dried to form a dehydrated hydrogel, which has a higher absorption capacity than the hydrated form. 

BURN KITS Universal supplies for general-purpose of specialty kits, such as welders bum kits, include scissors, medical gloves and gel-soaked dressings to help draw heat fiom a bum.
