University supply

The status of chemists in the eyes of executives was boosted by the successes of chemists in fields such as plastics, petrochemicals, and synthetic textiles. The industry s growing demand for trained chemists forged a new relationship with many academic chemistry departments. For example, universities supplied industry with chemists and with basic research to supplement work done in industrial laboratories. In turn, industry provided financial support to chemistry departments. Many of the increasing number of chemistry students in American universities were supported by pre- and post- doctoral fellowships from chemical corporations (Thackray et al., 1985). [Pg.20]

Support was provided under the National Energy Research, Development and Demonstration Program (NERDDP). T.P. Maher of the Joint Coal Board provided coal specimens and expert advice. P.J. Redllch (Monash University) supplied brown coals and extracted residues. Maceral concentrates were provided by N. Lockhart, C. Davies, M. Shlbaoka, N. Ng and A. Cook. N. Thomas and Z. Lauks performed most of the thermal analysis experiments. [Pg.124]

Cantharidin is a powerfiil vesicant that can be isolated from dried beetles Cantharis vesicatoria, or Spanish fly ). Outlined here is the stereospecific synthesis of cantharidin reported by Gilbert Stork (Columbia University). Supply the missing reagents (a)-(n). [Pg.817]

BURN KITS Universal supplies for general-purpose of specialty kits, such as welders bum kits, include scissors, medical gloves and gel-soaked dressings to help draw heat fiom a bum. Other supplies may include gel-soaked face masks, dry dressings to protect burned skin from contaminants, fire blankets to help extinguish flames or smoldering materials, and gels and sprays for pain relief of minor bums and protection from infection. [Pg.50]

The electronic block, which includes block of the analysis and registration and control system engines, and block of the source-receiver of acoustic oscillations are universal for any installations of this type. As the source-receiver of acoustic oscillations the ultrasonic flow detector is usually use. It s, as a rule, the serial devices for example y/f2-12. The electronic block contains the microprocessor device or PC, device of the power supply and management of engines... [Pg.883]

A convenient size of bomb for the quantities of material suggested is one of 8 ml. volume. The apparatus is supplied by Messrs, Chas. W, Cook and Sons, Ltd., University Works, 97 Walsall Road, Perry Barr, Birmingham 22B. [Pg.505]

Nor is it tme that there is no market for recycled vinyl. In 1989, the University of Toledo identified neady 100 uses for recycled vinyl. Overall, the potential demand for recycled vinyl is estimated to be over twice the potential supply of all vinyl botdes produced in the United States each year (247 X 10 tons needed vs 103.5 x 10 tons available via recycling of botdes). A more recent directory pubUshed by the Vinyl Institute Hsts neady 50 companies that make commercial products out of recycled vinyl (179). [Pg.509]

If casing limitations are fixed by user-supplied relief valves, this information should be conveyed to keep the vendor from rating the compressors on other data. Evaluations can be more of a problem if the same design basis isn t universal with all vendors. Startup and shutdown consideration influence various components, shaft end seals, seal system pressures, and even thrust bearings in some instances. The use of an alternate startup gas, or the desire to operate a gas compressor on air to aid in plant piping dryout should be covered. [Pg.445]

The appearance of n as the index of jc in Eq. (3.28) needs to be Justified. Combustion in gas turbines usually involves substantial excess air and the molecular weight of the mixed products is little changed from that of the air supplied, since nitrogen is the main component gas for both air and products. Thus the mean gas constant (universal gas constant divided by mean molecular weight) is virtually unchanged by the combustion. It then follows that... [Pg.40]

Another biofuel of importance is wood. The Forest Service, which is part of USDA, administers national forest lands for the sale of wood for wood fuel. Besides determining the quantity of wood fuel to bring to market by collecting and analyzing statistics on woody biomass supply and use, the Forest Sendee sponsors forest biomass energy-related research in conjunction tvitli federal and state agencies, as well as universities. [Pg.590]
