Some pharmaceutical mamrfacturers are implementing extranet web-enabled applications established with suppliers and business partners. Remote node access is achieved using a client with a browser connected to a corporate Web address or Universal Resource Locator (URL). The challenge is ensuring security across the Internet link. A secure session or tunnel is established between the VPN server and the end user workstation. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telecommunications carriers are endeavoring to provide a managed extranet/VPN service to corporate subscribers. A major benefit of Web-enabled applications is the ability to recover from disaster scenarios. Business Continuity Plans can actively make use of such applications. 

In the space of just a few years, computer networking has gone from an obscure technology to a part of everyday life. Computers are being connected to networks and to each other at a flabbergasting rate, and as a computer professional, one of your primary jobs over the next decade may be to connect your clients PCs to a network or to manage their access resources on their local network or the Internet.

Domain Name System (DNS) DNS allows TCP/IP-capable users anywhere in the world to find resources in other companies or countries by using their domain name. Each domain is an independent namespace for a particular organization, and DNS servers manage requests for information about the IP addresses of particular DNS entries. DNS is used to manage all names on the Internet.

The following list of program resources is not intended to be a comprehensive list (no list can be), however it does provide useful references most of which can be accessed via the internet.
