Linings, thin

The substituted five-ring OPVs have been processed into poly crystal line thin films by vacuum deposition onto a substrate from the vapor phase. Optical absorption and photolumincscence of the films are significantly different from dilute solution spectra, which indicates that intermolecular interactions play an important role in the solid-state spectra. The molecular orientation and crystal domain size can be increased by thermal annealing of the films. This control of the microstruc-ture is essential for the use of such films in photonic devices.

Confirmatory analysis of suspected liquid chromatographic peaks is usually accomplished by a photodiode array detector that continuously collects spectral data during the chromatographic separation and further compares the spectrum (200-550 nm) of the eluted suspected compound with that of a standard (37, 38, 66, 161, 163, 166-168, 178, 180, 181). Online absorbance ratio techniques combined witlr off-line thin-layer chromatography have been also reported (171). Although tliese confirmation techniques are relatively simple, their sensitivity is not generally adequate to identify trace levels of residual nitrofurans in edible animal products.

On-line thin-layer spectroelectrochemistry can provide chemical information but by itself it is not sufficient to confirm chemical identity. Typically the supporting evidence has been obtained by off-line methods such as mass spectrometry, FTIR and NMR. 

Interpretation of numerical results obtained in this case is facilitated by the fact that a few analytical solutions exist in the limit of line segments and infinitely long lines (thin stripes). Also, useful analytical expressions can be derived for surface features whose surface area is considerably larger than the particle cross-section area [57].
