Leakage current monitoring

Leakage current monitor - this can be connected perma-nently for continuous reading or periodic monitoring. The normal practice is to measure only periodically for a short period to take average measurements on an hourly, daily, monthly or yearly basis. When not connected permanently, the instrument can also be used as a portable kit to monitor the condition of other arresters installed in the vicinity. Field probe - to compensate the third harmonic of the system voltage to make the IZnO free from the third harmonic of the system voltage. This method of /r measurement therefore provides more accurate and closer monitoring of the arrester. [Pg.619]

Figure 18.24(b) illustrates the use of a leakage current monitor. The instrument can be used to display or monitor on a computer remotely and store data at intervals as required to provide diagnostic information. Now it is easier to take corrective measures in time. The instrument can also be programmed to give an alarm at a preset value of I, when the actual operating conditions exceed this. [Pg.619]

The greatest effect of ageing is reflected by the variation in its resistive current, which is rich in the third harmonic. Variation in is used in assessing the condition of an arrester. By conducting laboratory tests to determine the characteristics of an arrester, we can establish a ratio between the total leakage current, IZnO and the content of If, to assess the condition of the arrester. If we can monitor this current, we can monitor the condition of the arrester. Below we discuss briefly one such method by which this component can be separated out. [Pg.618]

Usually electrorefining is a major unit operation of extractive metallurgy modern industrial plants operate with high current efficiency (the unused current is mainly wasted by leakage currents to the ground and anode to cathode short circuits) as a result of improved monitoring and control systems. [Pg.241]

In contrast to r measurements, in which the decay of excess carriers is monitored the generation lifetime is determined from the reverse-biased pn junction leakage current or from the pulsed MOS capacitor (22.) latter and the more popular of the two, an MOS-C is pulsed into deep depletion and the capacitance is monitored as a function of time. An appropriate analysis of the C-t response yields t. ... [Pg.27]

Values of leakage current which are unusually high and which cannot be correlated to changes in volume resistivity may be caused by shunt error currents. The background leakage of current-measurement systems should be determined and monitored. [Pg.264]

Silicon semiconductor detectors for nuclear radiation monitors of neutron rays have been developed by Kitaguchi et al. (1995,1996). These are diffused p-n junction-type devices with low leakage current coated on the surface of the B-containing sensor element. Neutrons were detected as recoil protons by interaction of the proton radiator and a-particles generated by the nuclear reaction °B (n, a) Li. The energy response of this radiation detector meets the standard recommendations and is suited as an area monitor and a personal dosimeter as well. [Pg.52]

In static operations, the lifetime is mainly limited by the humidity, which penetrates through the external insulation layer and leads to a leakage current increase. A larger leakage current can lead to an electrical breakdown. Due to the dielectric and mechanical losses, the piezoelectric actuator warms up under continuous excitation. Losses are mainly non-linear and depend on the excitation frequency, the voltage amplitude and the humidity. To avoid a depoling effect of the ceramic, the temperature in the actuator should be monitored to ensure that it stays well below the ceramics Curie temperature. So a typical range of temperatures is —40°C to 80 °C. [Pg.118]

Check that the rate or high count rate LED is not red, or is only transiently red for a few seconds this monitors both count rate and leakage current in the detector and neither should be triggering this LED at this stage. If leakage current is indicated, then... [Pg.226]

One parameter that surely must be kept in control is the resolution of the system. I would suggest that this be monitored at high and low energy. As an early warning of impending resolution loss, monitoring the leakage current of the detector may also be useful. [Pg.299]

FIDs are used to measure total hydrocarbons at low concentrations such as for pollution, leakage, or safety monitoring. In the FID analyzer, the H2 flame ionizes the carbon atoms, and the resulting ionic current is an indication of the hydrocarbon concentration. In microprocessor-controlled hydrocarbon analyzers, up to eight channels can be obtained for simultaneous analysis of eight samples. These units also have the capability for remote calibration and automatic self-checking. [Pg.348]

Kidney Currently, there are no kidney-specific leakage enzymes assayed in serum. Renal function is evaluated by assaying serum levels of nitrogenous wastes—blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine—and monitoring protein levels in the urine (indicator of glomerular damage). [Pg.295]
