Leadership issues development

The recent Texas City and Buncefield incidents have moved industry and regulators beyond the pure science and engineering responses to develop ways to prevent a recurrence. They have caused us to also critically examine the leadership issues associated with delivering what has to be excellent operation and maintenance of high-hazard processes. 

This book is one of many SETAC publications that offer timely, innovative, and critically-reviewed perspectives on current topics relating to broad environmental toxicology and chemistry issues. SETAC assumes an active leadership in the development of educational programs and publishes the peer-reviewed, international journals Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management. The poll confirmed this, and in their words indicated that mentoring and support by and for minority groups provide a safe, family-like environment to discuss and understand important business issues. Specifically, this includes the opportunity to discuss and understand such topics as successful on-board technique, company politics and business strategies, personal and/or technical resources, models of success and histories of failure, unwritten rules and expectations, obtaining constructive criticism and feedback on performance, and how to develop leadership skills. 

Leadership commitment was found to be a unifying element among the chemical companies in the 2004 DJSI. The personal passion of an executive officer or director of the corporation was found to be a critical element of corporate commitment to sustainable development. CPhA has taken the leadership position in addressing the shortage problem in the profession by initiating the development of a proposal for a labor market study to help pharmacy understand the current manpower shortage and its causes and develop tools to forecast future needs. Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) commissioned an initial phase of the study, which is a literature search and key informant interviews to identify gaps in the available data. This study, A Situational Analysis of Human Resource Issues in the Pharmacy Profession in Canada, is available on the CPhA web site. The next step is development of a proposal for funding from HRDC for a comprehensive human resources study of the pharmacy profession in Canada to develop the foundation required to properly manage current and future pharmacy human resources.
