Japanese researchers report

Caribbean coral Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae discovered by Fenical et al. [47], Pseudopterosin E, Fig. (3) is the one with the best pharmacological profile, combining low toxicity and potent antiinflammatory activity. In human neutrophils, pseudopterosin E inhibits degranulation and formation of Ieukotrienes [2], In 1991, phase I clinical trials were initiated with pseudopterosin E as a topical anti-inflammatory agent. Recently, novel anti-inflammatory natural products have been isolated from this Caribbean soft coral [48,49], Japanese researchers reported the isolation of a group of compounds designated helioporins A-E, which are related to the pseudopterosins [1],... [Pg.690]

The Japanese researchers report [ 175-179] on the syntheses of aromatic polysulfones via the method of polycondensation in the environment of polar dissolvent (dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, and dimethylsulfoxide) at 60-400 °C in the presence of alkali metal carbonates within 10 min to 100 h. The s mthesized thermoplastic polysulfones possess good melt fluidity [175]. [Pg.143]

Unlike carbanions and silyl anions, boryl anions (BR2"), in the form of boryllithiums, have been unknown until recently. In 2006, Japanese researchers reported the synthesis of a boryllithium via the reduction of a cyclic (diamino)bromoborane with lithium/naphthalene in THF, that is, Li+Np , where Np is the anion radical of naphthalene (Segawa, Y. Yamashita, M. Nozaki, K. Science 2006, 314, 113-115) ... [Pg.87]

Japanese researchers have reported that adding Rohypnol to an existing drug therapy regimen helps correct severe sleep disturbances in children with epilepsy. Also, fewer seizures were reported when Rohypnol was used along with epilepsy therapy. The study appeared in the medical journal Brain Development in 1995. [Pg.437]

Until March 1994, 23 papers dealing with the detection of amphetamine in hair have been published. A characteristic point is that 18 out of the 23 papers about amphetamines in hair have been reported by Japanese researchers, which obviously marks the prominence of such drug consumption in the Far East. Recently, Nakahara published an excellent review on the detection of amphetamine in hair. Table 8 lists the workup and the main findings of each paper. [Pg.187]

This Asian technique has been used for centuries by Chinese, Japanese, and Korean physicians to treat a wide variety of ailments. In 2005, German researchers reported their findings on the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of high blood pressure at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association. They worked with 160 male and female patients ages forty-five... [Pg.184]

Vaccine-associated meningitis is a well-known adverse effect of mumps (or MMR) immunization. Until 1991 the reported incidence was low, but in that year Japanese researchers published the result of a nationwide survey, started in 1989, in which the incidence of vaccine-associated mumps meningitis varied from less than 1 case per 7000 to 1 per 405 from prefecture to prefecture. Meningitis was generally mild and there were no sequelae from the illness. The vaccine used contained the Urabe Am9 strain (42,43). In April 1993, the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Japan decided to interrupt the use of MMR vaccine (44). [Pg.2213]

Japanese publications report on a large research program which is known as Cj Chemistry Project [ 29 ]. The objective of the study is to substitute gasification carbon for crude-oil carbon (change of feedstock) in organic synthesis. In the processes dealt with there, membrane gas separation has an important place. The information is of significance, since these same techniques may be useful when applied to the membrane separation of industrial gases, waste... [Pg.37]

The whole plant of Swertia japonica Makino (Gentianaceae) is an important bitter stomachic in Japan where it is called "senburi". The plant is also claimed to be effective in the treatment of hepatitis (57). Components of this plant such as the bitter secoiridoids (58-63), phenyl glucosides (64), flavonoids (65) and xanthones (66-68) have been intensively studied mainly by Japanese researchers but, to date, there are few reports on the production of these constituents in vitro. Callus culture produced no bitter principles (secoiridoids) (69, 70), xanthones and flavones but coumarin derivatives, scopoletin and its glucoside were detected (71). [Pg.434]

Two Japanese research groups reported also on an efficient Ru-based catalytic PKR 2 mol% of the commercial Ru3(CO)i2 effected intramolecular PKRs in good yields at 140-160 °C under a CO pressure of 1-1.5 MPa [12, 13]. [Pg.1244]

Kanamycin A, the oldest compound of this type, has been synthesised by two Japanese research groups. S. Umezawa and co-workers linked the protected 6-0-(3-amino-3-deoxy-a-D-glucopyranosyl)-2-deoxystreptainine (Table 2, 77) with the blocked glycosylchloride, prepared from 6-amino-6-deoxyglucose. Nakajiama and co-workers have reported the synthesis of kanamycin A from the protected 4-0-(6-amino-6-deoxy-a-D-glucopyranosyl)-2-deoxystreptamine (Table 2,80) and the tri-O-benzylglycosylchloride, obtained from 3-acetaniido-3-deoxy-glucose. [Pg.122]

The Japanese produced FT product at the Miike Synthetic Oil Company located in Omuta and were in the process of constructing an adjoining a lubricating oil facihty that was not completed before the end of the war. Laboratory evaluation of lubricants prepared from FT oils were performed in the laboratory. Although the U. S. Naval Technical Mission Reports provide data derived from these evaluations, the data are sparse and obviously incomplete likely due to the fact that the technical files of the Japanese Research Institute were destroyed in August 1945. The available data show that for the FT derived lubricating oils the best antioxidant was a combination of triphenylphosphite and chromium oleate. [Pg.35]
