Isobutyric acid ester

A number of substituted benzenesulfonic acid esters and p-chlorophenoxy-isobutyric acid esters produced hypolipidemic activity.35 Among a series of p-alkoxybenzoic acids, enhanced hypotriglyceridemic and hypocholesterol-emic activity was observed with oximino- (14) and chloro- (15) substituents.98 Hypocholesterolemia was observed after the administration of 16 to rats.97 Tetronic 701, a polymeric surfactant, also lowered serum cholesterol the tetrabenzoate of Tetronic 701 is of particular interest, since it produced comparatively less growth depression.98 Two linoleamide derivatives, (-)N-fa-phenyl-B-(p-tolyl)ethylllinoleamide (PTLA) and N-(a-methyl-benzoyl)linoleamide, suppressed serum and liver cholesterol levels in rats and inhibited cholesterol absorption b interfering with the hydrolysis of cholesteryl esters in the intestine.99 101... [Pg.195]

The monoisobutyrate ester of TMPD, Texanol, or Filmer IBT, formally an isobutyraldehyde trimer, is prepared in a single step from isobutyraldehyde or, alternatively, by the esterification of TMPD with isobutyric acid. This monoester is most commonly employed as a coalescing agent for latex-based paints and water-based ink formulations. [Pg.380]

Clofibrate, shown to be an effective Upid lowering dmg in the eady 1960s, is the ethyl ester of/ -chlotophenoxy isobutyric acid. Gemfibrozil is a stmctural congener of clofibrate. [Pg.131]

Bis-p-nitrophenyl malonate (55M29) reacts with a-alkylamino-isobutyr-onitriles in xylene to give derivatives (16b) of tetramic acids with yields of 30-50% (86UP1 88UP1). The reaction of derivatized malonic acids with a-amino acid esters to 3-alkoxycarbonyl-l,5-dihydro-4-hydroxy-2-pyrrolones presents the same problems (see Section III). (See Fig. 8.)... [Pg.150]

The ester is prepared by esterification of 2-phenoxyethanol with isobutyric acid and is used as a fixative in perfumes (rose and lavender types) as well as for fruity notes. [Pg.128]

This synthesis has one rather anomalous application, when a-bromo-isobutyric acid (or its ethyl ester) is heated with silver, some tetramethyl-succinic acid is produced in the ordinary way (B., 23, 297 26, 1458). But there also appears trimethylglutaric acid (A., 292, 220). To explain the unexpected formation of this acid, it has been assumed that a portion of the a-bromoisobutyric acid gives up HBr to form methylacrylic acid. This latter then forms j3-bromoisobutyric acid, and the silver withdraws bromine from the a- and /3 acids, whereby the residues unite to tri-methyl-glutaric acid (B., 22, 48, 60). A similar explanation applies to some other syntheses in which tetramethylsuccinic and trimethylglutaric acids appear together. [Pg.124]

Union or United States. Ester gum is produced by the action of glycerol upon pinewood rosin to produce its esterified form, a mixture of di- and tri-glycerides, then purified by a process of steam-stripping in order to de-aromatise it, providing an odourless, tasteless gum type of m.p. 8O-90°C. SAIB is produced by controlled esterification of sucrose using acetic and isobutyric acid anhydrides and its composition is consequently dependent upon reaction conditions. [Pg.111]

Sucrose Acetate Isobutyrate occurs as a clear, pale yellow, viscous liquid. It consists of a mixture of sucrose esters of acetic and isobutyric acid, with sucrose diacetate hexaisobu-tyrate being the predominant sucrose ester. It is produced through the controlled esterification of sucrose with acetic anhydride and isobutyric anhydride. It is very soluble in essential oils such as orange oil, soluble in ethanol and in ethyl acetate, and very slightly soluble in water. [Pg.456]
