Intervention targeted training

Intervention-Leading with Safety workshops and targeted training... [Pg.236]

Interventions were simple and low-cost, but aU were based on empirical evidence or sound safety principles, and all targeted communication. To reduce faulty orders, physicians were provided with strong incentives to write their orders according to a standardized method. Nurses and pharmacists were trained to communicate assertively in their interactions with physicians, and they received strong support from the medical leadership for doing so. [Pg.10]

There are three major forms of behavior interventions. They are instructional intervention, supportive intervention, and motivational intervention (Geller 1999, 44). Instructional interventions consist of educational sessions, training exercises, and directive feedback. Supportive interventions focus on the application of positive consequences. Positive reinforcement of wanted behaviors increases the likelihood that the behavior will be performed again. Motivational interventions include positive incentive or rewards for targeted behaviors. Negative motivators often are ineffective because the consequence or penalty seems remote and improbable (Geller 1999,46). [Pg.120]

Figure 9.6 summarizes the main steps of a behavior-based incident analysis with a flow chart of ten basic questions to ask. Before an individual worker is targeted with a training intervention, engineering strategies are considered for task simplification. [Pg.162]

This type of intervention consists primarily of activators, as exemplified by education sessions, training exercises, and directive feedback. Because yom pmpose is to instruct, the intervention comes before the target behavior and focuses on helping the performer internalize your instructions. As we have all experienced, this type of intervention is more effective when the instructions are specific and given one-on-one. Role playing exercises provide instructors opportunities to customize directions specific to individual attempts to improve. They also allow participants the chance to receive rewarding feedback for their improvement. [Pg.167]
