The emissions were greatly influenced by the primary zone equivalence ratios. The residence times at the high-temperature region decreased with decreased fuel-air ratio, resulting in a drastic increase in CO and UHC emissions. CO and UHC emissions also increased for very lean mixtures because of lower combustion temperatures. For the baseline cases NOj, emissions were found to increase with increased fuel-air ratio whereas, with porous inserts installed, varying fuel-air ratio generally had little influence on the NOj, concentrations. [Pg.466]

I oise Transmission Reduction in HVACSystems. One common use of sound-absorbing treatment is to reduce noise transmission in heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems (6). The treatments ate used to reduce the transmission of fan noise and air turbulence noise through ducts into occupied spaces. Noise transmission reduction in duct systems is described in terms of insertion loss, the difference in sound power level or sound pressure level measured at a given location before and after installation of the treatment or sound attenuation, the reduction in sound power between two locations affected by a sound source. The electrolysis protection process using impressed current aluminum anodes allows uncoated and hot-dipped galvanized ferrous materials in domestic installations to be protected from corrosion. Brazed Silver-brazed connectors are commonly used for joining non-ferrous piping in the pressure and temperature range where their use is practical. Use of this type of connector is limited to installations in which the piping temperature will not exceed 425°F and the pressure in cold lines will not exceed 3000 psi. Heating the joint with an oxyacetylene torch melts the alloy. This causes the alloy insert to melt and fill the few thousandths of an inch annular space between the pipe and fitting. [Pg.624]

By the use of suitable shunts, the basic moving-coil movement can be adapted to measure m almost unlimited range of currents. Figure 10.46 illustrates a direct-indicating instrument with shunt, to measure current up to 5 A d.c. To ensure that the resistance of the circuit is not materially altered by the insertion of an ammeter, it is usual to install either a shunt or the meter itself (usually a moving-coil meter with internal shunt) permanently in the circuit.
