Rods, support

The cause of the weaker G dependence must be ascribed to some particular feature of geometry, although exactly what it is has not been found. All of the three bundles involved had their rods supported and correctly positioned by wires wrapped helically around certain of the rods, and it is possible that the wires caused an unfavorable distribution of steam and water. However, it is doubtful that the wire wraps were themselves responsible, since several of the bundles conforming to Eq. (28) were also wire wrapped. (Other devices used for rod supports are suitably spaced grids and ferrules.) The explanation most probably lies in a combination of the effects of the wire wraps with the effects of given rod diameters and rod spacings. For ease of identification, the data that conform with Eq. (28) are hereafter called normal data. [Pg.262]

The work described by Jeannot and Cantwell implied utilizing two different apparatuses for two different steps a Teflon rod supporting the drop (for extraction) and a microsyringe (for injection of the extract into the analytical instrument). The work was further developed by incorporating only a microsyringe for extraction (as solvent drop holder) and extract injection (as sample injector) into the analytical instrument.7... [Pg.71]

The longitudinal resonance (the lengthwise poled rod supported at its centre (node)) and antiresonance frequencies are 71.8 kHz and 88.1 kHz. [Pg.408]

The end of the paper nearest the origins is placed in a trough supported in the upper part of a well-sealed tank. The paper is anchored by a glass rod and is folded over an antisiphon rod supported above the trough (Figs. 5.7 and 8). The solvent used as the... [Pg.398]

Corrugated-pipe designs shown in Fig. 9-8b behave structurally as an intermediate between a bellow s joint and straight pipe They are also intermediate in price and require tie-rod support to keep the corrugations from straightening out under creep conditions. Such expansion designs are limited to short-expansion, straight-line requirements. [Pg.370]

Compositions that are not used in loose powder form are consolidated in one of three ways They can be mixed with a sizable amount of a strong adhesive to form firm beads, bulbs, or elongated rods supported by wires, wood, or paper splints they can be compressed or loosely aggregated with the aid of adhesives to serve as overall burning stars or they may be pressed into a protective envelope with or without a binder. [Pg.312]

Gamma Shield The gamma shield is a round carbon steel plug that fits tightly into the penetration. It protects the mechanisms and the maintenance crew against gamma radiation from the core and the activated control rods. It provides small vertical passages for the control rod support cables. Inclusion of a debris retainer function. A debris retainer function is integrated into the rod support grid, thus reducing the probability of fretting caused by debris. [Pg.39]

In an effort to mechanize and automate analytical methods, several proposals have been published recently for automatic melting-point determination. This can be based, for example, on the observation of light transmittance as dependent on the temperature (5), on the recording of the movement of a small rod supported by a column of the substance in a capillary,... [Pg.39]
