While the definitions of the various hydroprocesses are (as has been noted above) quite arbitrary, it may be difficult, if not impossible, to limit the process to any one particular reaction in a commercial operation. The prevailing conditions may, to a certain extent, minimize, cracking reactions during a hydrotreating operation. However, with respect to the heavier feedstocks, the ultimate aim of the operation is to produce as much low-sulfur liquid products as possible from the feedstock. Any hydrodesulfurization process that has been designed for application to the heavier oils and residua may require that hydrocracking and hydrodesulfurization occur simultaneously. [Pg.161]

Hydrotreating processes have two definite roles (1) desulfurization to supply low-sulfur fuel oils and (2) pretreatment of feed residua for residuum fluid catalytic cracking processes. The main goal is to remove sulfur, metal, and asphaltene contents from residua and other heavy feedstocks to a desired level. [Pg.355]

Compositional information from gas chromatographic analysis is more definitive than distillation data. A naphtha composition is given in Table 1. The composition is given after the naphtha has been hydrotreated to lower concentrations of olefins and contaminants. Some of the paraffin isomers are lumped together in this particular analysis. The compositional information is often categorized into the classes of paraffins, olefins, naphthenes, and aromatics, and is called a PONA. The ease of reforming feedstocks has been correlated to the sum... [Pg.1966]
