Long term hydrolysis

Of the transparent polyamides the Grilamid material has the lowest density and lowest water absorption. It is also claimed to have the best resistance to hydrolysis, whilst transparency is unaffected by long-term exposure to boiling water. Tbe properties of Trogamid T and Grilamid TR55 are compared in Table 18.11. [Pg.511]

Oil-soluble derivatives of testosterone itself predate those of its 19-nor congener these agents too are used to administer depot injections so as to provide in effect long-term blood levels of drug. Thus, acylation of testosterone with propionyl chloride in the presence of pyridine yields testosterone propionate (76a)acylation by means of decanoic anhydride yields testosterone decanoate (76b).Finally, reaction of 75 with 3-cyclopentylpropionyl chloride affords testosterone cypionate (76c)This last undergoes hydrolysis unusually slowly because of the presence of two substituents at the 5 position (see Newman s Rule of 6). ... [Pg.172]

Without a doubt, tetrafluoroborate and hexafluorophosphate ionic liquids have shortcomings for larger-scale technical application. The relatively high cost of their anions, their insufficient stability to hydrolysis for long-term application in contact with water (formation of corrosive and toxic HF during hydrolysis ), and problems related to their disposal have to be mentioned here. New families of ionic liquid that should meet industrial requirements in a much better way are therefore being developed. FFowever, these new systems will probably be protected by state of matter patents. [Pg.32]

It should be noted that hydrolysis of the PAAm chains in hydrogels can also occur in aqueous medium at the application conditions, i.e. in the soil. This should obviously cause an increase in swelling but at the same time it makes the risk of irreversible ionic collapse more real. This tendency is irresistible and can serve as one of the factors determining the lifetime of SAH in soil. Abrupt disappearance of the SAH effects were observed in some of our long-term experiments. [Pg.110]

PKC is a family of enzymes whose members play central roles in transducing information from external stimuli to cellular responses. Members of this family of serine/ threonine kinases respond to signals that cause lipid hydrolysis. PKC isozymes phosphorylate an abundance of substrates, leading to both short-term cellular responses such as regulation of membrane transport and long-term responses such as memory and learning. [Pg.1006]

Degradation products of LDPE/(BHT, Chimassorb 944) after long-term exposure to compost, water and air (chemical hydrolysis at pH 5 and pH 7) at room temperature were examined by GC-MS [277] the structural changes in the LDPE film were monitored by DSC and SEC. Among the 79 low-MW degradation products identified by GC-MS the main components were... [Pg.466]

The proteins in the mortars can be modified by gradual oxidation or other chemical processes. In mass spectra the peaks that can be interpreted as oxygen incorporation (the mass shift of +16 Da) or ammonia release (—15 Da) can be sometimes indicated. This observation is not surprising as several amino acids (Met, Trp, Tyr, etc.) can be oxidised under these conditions similarly, Gin and Asn can gradually release their ammonia by long-term hydrolysis in a wet inorganic matrix. [Pg.178]

SMPB contains a hydrophobic cross-bridge and relatively nonpolar ends, which allows the reagent to permeate membrane structures. Due to its water-insolubility, it must be dissolved in an organic solvent prior to adding an aliquot to a reaction mixture. The solvents DMF and DMSO work well for this purpose. A concentrated stock solution prepared in these solvents allows for easy addition of a small amount to a conjugation reaction. Long-term storage in these solvents is not recommended due to slow water pickup and possible hydrolysis of the NHS ester end. [Pg.291]

Both THP and THPP are stable in aqueous solution, as the only potential product of hydrolysis is the reformation of the hydroxymethyl groups. It is unusual for an amine-reactive functional group to have long-term stability in water or buffer, which makes these reagents uniquely suitable for creating reactive surfaces or reactive molecules for subsequent... [Pg.344]

Dissolve NHS-LC-biotin (Thermo Fisher) in dry DMF at a concentration of 40 mg/ml. This stock solution is stable for reasonable periods, although long-term storage is not recommended. For use of the water-soluble sulfo-NHS-LC-biotin, a stock solution may be prepared in either organic solvent or water, or the solid reagent may be added directly to the reaction mixture. If a solution in water is made to facilitate the addition of a small quantity of reagent to a reaction, then the solution should be prepared quickly and used immediately to prevent hydrolysis of the NHS ester. Sulfo-NHS-LC-biotin may be dissolved in water at a concentration of 20 mg/ml. [Pg.514]

VO(acac)2 < VO(Et-acac)2 VO(Me-acac)2 BMOV. Conversion rates for all hydrolysis products were faster than for the original species. Both EPR and visible spectroscopic studies of solutions prepared for administration to diabetic rats ocumented both a salt effect on the species formed and formation of a new halogen-containing complex. The authors concluded that vanadium compound efficacy with respect to long-term lowering of plasma glucose levels in diabetic rats traced the concentration of the hydrolysis product in the administration solution. [Pg.277]

While polycarbonate has the desirable qualities as the basic material for information storage, it also has some debits. First, polycarbonate is relatively expensive in comparison with many polymers. Its superior combination of properties and ability for a large cost markup allows it to be an economically feasible material for specific commercial uses. Second, the polar backbone is susceptible to long-term hydrolysis so that water must be ruthlessly purged. The drying process, generally 4 h, is often achieved by placement of polycarbonate chips in an oven at 120°C with a dew point of — 18°C. [Pg.101]

The structure of MAO is poorly defined and varies with preparation conditions, but it performs well in activating the metallocene initiator. The use of MAO is complicated by its lack of long-term storage stability. It is usually supplied by manufacturers as a cloudy solution of MAO in toluene MAO has very low solubility in aliphatic solvents. Precipitation is often observed on long standing, especially if the container is frequently opened and exposed to moisture and oxygen. This precipitation, if not too extensive, may not affect the utility of the MAO as a coinitiator. A modified MAO, known as MMAO, offers some improvement in storage stability and improved solubility in aliphatics. MMAO is prepared by controlled hydrolysis of a mixture of trimethylaluminum and triisobutylaluminum. [Pg.677]
