Housing the system

Process variables requiring control in a system include, but are not limited to, flow, level, temperature, and pressure. Some systems do not require all of their process variables to be controlled. Think of a central heating system. A basic heating system operates on temperature and disregards the other atmospheric parameters of the house. The thermostat monitors the temperature of the house. When the temperature drops to the value selected by the occupants of the house, the system activates to raise the temperature of the house. When the temperature reaches the desired value, the system turns off. [Pg.109]

A pilot-scale Rayox system, which included a GAC treatment component, was installed at the Charnock Wellfleld site in Santa Monica, California. Groundwater at the site was contaminated with methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA). Capital costs for the proposed 3500 gpm full-scale system are projected to be 4 million to 5 million. These costs do not include expenses associated with installing the technology or purchasing property to house the system (40,000 ft are required). A small water treatment system is generally sized to treat water volumes up to at least 0.044 m /s (1 MGD). Placement of vascular access ports is similar to that of a long-term indwelling arterial catheter. A small incision is made over the selected vein and a second incision is made lower in the anterior chest to create a pocket to house the port. The catheter is tuimeled subcutaneously from its entry point into the vein with the tip inside the right atrium. The final position of the catheter is verified by fluoroscopy, secured with sutures, and the subcutaneous pocket is closed. Any program developed in-house must be easy to use, or user-friendly. If the program has various options for input, analysis, computation, and output, then it must provide the user with a fast way to select them. To meet this need, the system is likely to be menu-driven. PPO forms one of a group of rigid, heat-resistant, more-or-less selfextinguishing polymers with a good electrical and chemical resistance, low water absorption and very good dimensional stability. This has led to a number of applications in television such as tuner strips, microwave insulation components and transformer housings. The excellent hydrolytic stability has also led to applications in water distribution and water treatment applications such as in pumps, water meters, sprinkler systems and hot water tanks.
