Cleaning, fabrics

Cost estimates are presented below for pulse jet cleaned fabric filters. The eosts are expressed in fourth quarter 1998 dollars. The cost estimates assume a conventional design under typical operating eonditions and do not inelude auxiliary equipment... [Pg.407]

Conditioned fabric maintains a relatively consistent dust-load deposit following a number of filtration and cleaning cycles. K may be more than 10 times the value of the resistance coefficient for the original clean fabric. If the depth of the dust layer on the fabric is greater than about inch (which corresponds to a fabric dust loading on the order of 0.1 Ibm/ft ), the pressure drop across the fabric, including the dust in the pores, is usually negligible relative to that across the dust layer alone. [Pg.779]

Fabric Cleaning. The Kevlar-29 woven fabric was obtained through the courtesy of Naval Weapons Center. A special pair of serrated shears was purchased from Technology Associates for cutting the fabric. The fabric (2.5 cm x 18 cm) was placed in a Soxhlet thimble and extracted by 100 ml of chloroform for 24 hours to remove its surface lubricants (about 3% by weight). The fabric was then removed from the thimble and agitated in a 20 ml of hot distilled DMAc for 15 minutes, before it was placed back into the thimble and extracted for another 8 hours using fresh chloroform solvent. The solvent-cleaned fabric was dried in a vacuo at room temperature. [Pg.327]

Two principal types of fabric are adaptable to filter use woven fabrics, which are used in shaker and reverse-flow filters and felts, which are used in reverse-pulse filters. The felts made from synthetic fibers are needle felts (i.e., felted on a needle loom) and are normally reinforced with a woven insert. The physical properties and air permeabilities of some typical woven and felt filter fabrics are presented in Tables 17-6 and 17-7. The air permeability of a filter fabric is defined as the flow rate of air in cubic feet per minute (at 70°F, 1 atm) that will pass through 1 ft2 of clean fabric under an applied differential pressure of Vt in water. The resistance coefficient KF of the clean fabric is defined by the equation in Table 17-6, which may be used to calculate the value of KF from the air permeability. If Ap, is taken as 0.5 in water, t as 0.0181 cP (the viscosity of air at 70°F and 1 atm), and Vj as the air permeability, then //, = 27.8/air permeability. [Pg.49]

CNC GEL CONC. not only removes extraneous matter from the goods, but also suspends and prevents this material from re-depositing on the clean fabric. [Pg.133]

In domestic synthetic detergents, nonionic surfactants are increasingly used, but anionic surfactants predominate. Anionic detergents, which constitute the great volume of all synthetic powder detergents, are particularly effective at cleaning fabrics that absorb water readily, such as those manufactured from natural fibers (e.g., cotton, wool, and silk). Anionic... [Pg.14]

Transfer of Contamination in Laundry. Sustained transfer occurred when a clean fabric was laundered in equipment that had been used to wash contaminated fabric. The transfer fabric was an all cotton batiste of plain weave construction. These fabric swatches (8x8 cm) were subjected to one complete laundering cycle immediately after the contaminated fabrics had been through one wash and two rinse cycles. [Pg.181]

The detergency results were evaluated by means of the reflectance values of the cleaned fabrics. Details of the method are described in Ref 20. As a standard for the soil solubilization, the difference AR between the reflectance values of cleaned and uncleaned test fabrics was used. The GFS test fabric was so heavily soiled that reflectance measurements of the uncleaned material were impossible. Thus the detergency for the GFS fabric was evaluated by absolute reflectance values of the cleaned fabrics. [Pg.813]

Se is a measure of drag for the cleaned fabric and A, the specific resistance coefficient, is primarily a characteristic of the dust, varies for different dusts, and is a measure of how rapidly pressure drop will build up in the system. Values of Se and 2 should be obtained experimentally from a plot of AP vs. t. The slope of the plot is proportional to 2 while extrapolation to t = 0 gives an intercept from which 5 may be calculated. [Pg.1056]
